Are you interested in finding out how you can reduce your carbon footprint? Do you want to know what the heck a "carbon footprint" is? The City of Glendale offers classes, tips and services to help Glendale citizens, business owners and visitors learn how to live more of a "green" lifestyle. Ride your bike instead of driving your car. If you can't carpool or utilize any of the Park and Ride centers in Glendale, check out the Valley Metro Public Transportation sytem or Gus Bus. Water conservation is a huge deal in our desert climate. Drought-resistent landscaping, sweeping dirt and grass cuttings from your driveways and sidewalks instead of using the hose and watering the lawn less often can go a long way in helping Glendale conserve its water consumption. Every single-family household in Glendale is issued a 95-gallon recycling bin for their home. This bin is part of Glendale's curbside recycling service and can be filled with paper products (magazines, newspapers, etc), cans (soda, beer, soup, etc), plastic containers (milk jugs, water bottles, soda bottles, etc) and cardboard boxes that have been removed of any packing materials and flattened (moving boxes, cereal boxes, cake mix boxes, etc). The City of Glendale wants to help its residents help keep Mother Earth beautiful.

Reports show the average home spends $1900 a year on energy costs; many homeowners are unaware of how much they can save with proper dryer and dryer vent maintenance
Glendale, AZ-Chris Wiley is the owner of Dryer Vent Wizard in Maricopa County, Arizona. He was interviewed recently and he said it is his policy that all technicians who work for him help to educate consumers on dryer fire safety. "The job is not complete until each customer understands their dryer vent system, how it works, and how to properly maintain it between annual professional cleaning and repair," said Chris. "Home owners who think its normal for their dryer to take more than one cycle to dry clothes are in danger of starting a fire due to clogged dryer vents" Chris advises his customers that lint accumulation in the dryer vent system will cause the dryer to over heat and to run inefficiently, causing fires and increasing energy usage.
Dryer Vent Wizard, Dry Clothes, Safe Homes is the largest chain of dryer vent specialists in the U.S. Besides specializing in dryer vent maintenance, they also provide free videos, brochures and tips for consumers who visit their site at http://www.dryerventwizard.com
Chris explained, "With rising energy costs, our role is to educate consumers as we provide dryer vent cleaning and repair services. I get emails and phone calls all the time from customers who appreciate our concern for their safety."
Chris urges consumers to have their dryer vent systems cleaned annually and to be sure they meet city, state and manufacturer codes. Plastic or foil vents need to be replaced with semi-rigid or solid metal venting. Anyone who lives in an older home, or is not sure if their dryer vent system is up to code should have an inspection done right away. "The cost of an inspection is much less than the cost of damages caused by a fire, not to mention the value of lives that are saved by taking safety measures in the home," said Chris.

In a tough market like this, so often the difference between selling today and selling in 4 months is very simple--STAGE YOUR HOME! Moreover, homes that have simple added touches tend to sell quicker.
Here are some simple guideposts for a quicker sale:
SIMPLE STAGING STRATEGIES
#1 - Clean. Your home should smell and look clean! Typically this involves hiring a cleaning crew. In fact, having a cleaning service return weekly while your house is for sale is probably a pretty good investment. Get your windows professionally cleaned inside and out too.
#2 - Fix. Does that faucet drip or that wall look scuffed? These will send the wrong message to potential buyers. Getting them fixed before you put your house on the market is a smart idea. Put your best foot forward.
#3 - Get Rid of Clutter. There is a 50% rule for eliminating half of the items in your home. This may be the hardest rule of all! We love clutter - - it reflects our memories, hobbies, and values. But it won't sell homes! Clutter makes homes seem smaller and disorganized.
#4 - Neutral with Class. Neutral colors sell! Fact not opinion. Try to convey an image of quality and neutrality. Potential buyers walking through your home want to imagine themselves as the owners. If you use styles or colors they would never select, you've just turned them off. Staying high-quality, but neutral is safest.
#5 - De-personalize. Remove objects that your potential buyers won't be able to identify with. Some examples are items like personal photos, religious symbols or political affiliations. Buying a home is an emotional decision, and you want potential buyers to make an emotional connection with your home by being able to "see" themselves in it. The last thing you want is for them to be turned off because they don't like your political candidate. After all, the key is to sell your home!
Follow these steps, along with pricing your home right, and you should be well on your way to signing escrow papers in a few weeks!

The 77 acre mixed use project called CBD 101, at Bethany Home and the 101 in Glendale is closer to reality with initial grading, and installation of water and sewer lines scheduled for later this year.
Currently Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2010. At this point it is our guess that the developer will elect to build 150 residential apartments in Phase 1, rather than condominiums (the property is zoned to allow either one) given the state of the real estate market today.
Ultimately, the plans call for a total of 850 residential units. We at WKU are hopeful that a majority of those are AFFORDABLE mid to high rise condominiums.

People are busy; it's difficult to be without one's vehicle while it spends days in a body shop. Mobil auto body service comes to home or office to do minor repairs quickly
Glendale, AZ Steven Leon, a retail manager at Fry's, traded his business suit for a logo-ed uniform to own and operate a Collision on Wheels (CW), We Come to You franchise in the Metro West Valley. "I liked that CW provided a much needed solution to consumers' minor collision repair problems which ultimately saves time and money," says Steven.
Collision on Wheels (CW), We Come to You is a national franchise company specializing in mobile collision and paint repair. The franchise services a niche market of consumers who don't have time to take their vehicle to a body shop for minor collision repairs and who are reluctant to make a claim to insurance companies.
When Steven decided he didn't want back into the corporate world, he looked into franchising. Having Retail Management skill earlier in his career gave him a wealth of experience on which to draw. He researched several concepts and found Collision on Wheels, We Come to You. Steven found the concept met a market demand that wasn't being addressed. "When consumers find we can take care of that grocery store parking lot dent or scratch at their home or office without giving up their car-- they are thrilled," says Steven.
A collision industry study conducted by the consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan found that consumers are more reluctant to report small collisions due to the concern that premiums would increase. The study also identified the growth area of the industry as "cosmetic repair" that falls into two categories. Consumers who need a quick repair because they plan on selling their car and those who have been in a minor accident and prefer to pay out of pocket rather than file a claim.
Collision on Wheels, mobile approach is positioned to meet this demand in the collision industry. "CW's mobile approach to minor collision repairs that are typically under the insurance deductible saves consumers time, money and maintains the resale value of their vehicles," says Steven.
Retail Manager turned entrepreneur Steven shares these "tips" to help consumers preserve the finish and resale value of their vehicles:
•· Take care of any damage larger than a credit card prior to lease turn in.
•· Wash and vacuum your vehicle once a week to prolong the life of the paint and interior.
•· Immediately wash your vehicle if bugs stick to your cars' paint finish. Bugs contain acid that can eat away clear coat within 24 hours.
•· Keep a cover on your dash in the summertime to prevent heat cracks.
•· If you don't have a garage, park in shady areas. Sun damages the paint finish of vehicles over time.
"Consumers who follow these simple guidelines," says Steven, "will keep their vehicles looking good and preserve the resale value as well."
Collision on Wheels, We Come to You, is the largest chain of mobile paint and collision repair specialists in the U.S. with 45 metro market locations servicing residential and commercial customers.
