The PortaldnWomen's 9 Holers is now accepting new members. The group meets Mon mornings at the Portland Golf Course and offers a Ghin handicapp card, weekly prizes, a variety of tournament formats each week, and social events throughout the year. For more information, call Shirley Egan at 342-5181.
The 18-hole "Portland" course at the Portland Golf Course West facility in Portland, Connecticut features 4,012 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 60. The course rating is 60.5 and it has a slope rating of 100. Designed by Al Zikorus, the Portland golf course opened in 1985.

The Portland Veterans Commission is holding another drive to provide comfort items for the troops serving in Iraq. At this time there are 2 Portland residents serving. The drive will last through April 30. Collection boxes will be located at Portland Country Market, Quonset Surplus, Tri-Town Foods & the barbershop on Route 66. A list of suitable items will be attached to each box.

Portland Fire Department Engine Co. 1 holds pancake breakfasts the 1st Sun of each month, from now through May, from 7-11am, at 7 Middlesex Ave, Portland, behind the Post Office. There will be all you can eat pancakes, sausage and drinks. Fees are $3 for children and $5 for adults.

| Good Old Fashioned Pancakes |

| 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon white sugar | 1 1/4 cups milk 1 egg 3 tablespoons butter, melted |
| 1. | In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth. |
| 2. | Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot. |

A Daisy Girl Scout Troop has formed for Portland girls in kindergarten. Anyone interested in their daughter being part of this troop can email Lisa Deschnow at ldeschnow@gsoct.orgor call her at 347-5768. Meetings are held at Trinity Church, 345 Main St, Portland, CT, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, from 6-7pm.
