The Foreigner a Play by Larry Shue in Roswell GA Sunday March 11 2012

yellow cartoon sunDon't miss the final performance of "The Foreigner" by renowned playwright Larry Shue.

The Foreigner is a farce that touches on deep themes, loyalty and deep friendships, love and betrayal, prejudice and redemption and then the good guys win in the end. One may see this play over and over - in fact this was my fifth time seeing The Foreigner - each in a different venue.

The current production is being staged by the Georgia Ensemble Theater at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center on Forrest Street. A professional troupe, the GET offers a complete season each year and the 2011-2012 season is no exception.

Shue graduated cum laude from college and served in the Viet Nam war. He was the Playwright-in-Residence at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater in the early 80's. His play The Nerds premiered there in 1981, went on to play in London's West End and reached Broadway in 1987. Shue's play, The Foreigner, premiered in 1983 and transferred to off-Broadway. Both plays are enjoyed throughout the US by audiences of all ages. Unfortunately, Shue did not live to see the continued success of his work nor to provide us with more of his excellent plays. He died at age 39 in a plane crash in Virginia.

Barrington Hall presents a series of lectures in their coach house meeting space on the first and third Wednesdays of each month (and sometimes the fifth Wednesday) .

This popular lecture series covers a variety of local and historic topics of interest to people living in Roswell and the surrounding areas. The doors open at 6:30 PM and our lectures begin their presentations at 7 PM. Lectures last approximately an hour and are followed by a question and answer period. Seating is limited and most lectures fill up quickly.

Time for new cooking classes at Barrington Hall. It’s back to basics with Chef John Wilson. Chef John will teach basic cooking techniques in a variety of American, European and international cuisines. Classes will be held in the kitchen of Historic Barrington Hall. Join us for an evening of culinary fun and camaraderie. You’ll leave with some pretty useful cooking skills in the bargain. Prepare a complete meal under Chef John’s hold-your-attention instruction and dine in the spacious kitchen of this historic home.Barrinton Hall
