Kansas History and People - Who am I - #2

Kansas Farmland for Sale by Marisa Morgan Dallman: Real Estate Agent in Mc Louth, KS

Kansas has an interesting history and this year we celebrate our sesquicentennial of being a state for 150 years so in honor of Kansas we have a new blog post series - Who am I? All these folks are from Kansas, had an influence on Kansas or are historical figures and people coming and going from Kansas. During the sesquicentennial year we will occasionally post a new person with their facts. Happy Kansas 150!

I was born in Fort Scott, Kansas.

I became a photographer for LIFE magazine.

For the 1968 movie, The Learning Tree, based on my novel I became the first African American director, screenwriter and composer for a major motion picture.

In 1988 I received the National Medal of Arts from President Ronald Reagan.

I am...

GORDON PARKS

Gordon Parks who died in 2006 was a world famous photographer, filmaker and writer. Although he was born in Kansas there is very little mentioned about his life in Kansas besides the fact he was born here. Information at the Kansas Museum of History website indicates he was one of 15 children and left home in his teens and moved to Minnesota. However, he is buried in the Fort Scott, Kansas cemetery.

Find more more about Gordon Parks at Wikipedia. Photos taken by Kansas Land Brokers LLC at Kansas Museum of History and Who am I facts are from the plaques in the museum.

Hi Everyone,

We hope that you are all enjoying our great Kansas winter weather!

The ice and snow tried to slow us at Front Door Real Estate, Inc., down, and the mix succeeded on everyday items such as showings, listings, errands, open houses, etc. But, the blizzard conditions were no match for us when it came down to providing the most useful real estate website in Southeast Kansas!

I was reading my February 2010 addition of "Realtor" Magazine and came across an article written by Katherine Tarbox called “6 Weeks to Better Search Engine Results”. As I started to read Katherine’s article it was as if she had wrote this article just for me. I just recently spent a large part of my advertising budget to “revamp” my website (MyFDRE.com).

Her article begins, “After investing time and money to build a spectacular Web site, you’d probably like to sit back and watch those online leads roll in. Not so fast. You still have a very important job ahead of you-ensuring that prospects and clients can actually find your site. And one of the best ways to see results quickly, experts say, is to optimize your site for search engines. Even if you did this when you developed your site, there are may be room for improvement.”

This article then provides a 6-week program to make your Web site more user friendly and suggestions to make your site more visible on the Web.

I started, “Week 1: Write Better Page Titles”, so, guess what I did this evening… Yep, I started altering my Web site’s page titles to be more direct and focused on the Fort Scott Kansas Real Estate Market versus Real Estate in general. Prior to doing so, I checked Google searching “Fort Scott Kansas Homes For Sale” my site is currently on Page 6.

Very disappointed in my Page 6 placement; I took Katherine’s “challenge” to make my site more visible to potential clients.

I will let everyone know how it goes… you will hear from me next week as I take on, “Week 2: Broadcast Your Links”.
