Paradise Cove is a Cool Spot of Fun In Richmond Kentucky

Finally, Richmond Kentucky has a new public pool! It's called Paradise Cove and is located in Gibson Bay. It features a fabulous eight-lane diving pool with two, one-meter diving boards, a children's pool, two 40-foot tall slides, a wide slide and a small butterfly slide for the small tykes.

There is talk of adding a lazy river in Paradise Cove and another slide at a later date. It just wouldn't fit into the original budget. Even though the weather has been a bit rainy, the pool is a welcome sight to Madison County locals.

Years ago, I can remember the public pool located in Rolling Hills on the north end of town. I swam there every summer. After that one closed, the only place to go was the public pool in Berea. The closest one built in recent years was at Ft. Boonesborough State Park. That one was still a bit far to drive to.

Summer in Richmond KY is going to be cool regardless of the temperature! See you at Paradise Cove!

Second Chance Resale Boutique In Downtown Richmond Kentucky

Since I grew up in downtown Richmond, I have a special place in my heart for businesses on Main Street.

Now we have something new...Second Chance Resale Boutique! It is located at 144 East Main Street.

I was invited to the grand opening ceremonies on May 8th for the ribbon cutting.

As you can see... there was quite a crowd to welcome Joc'elyn Williams(Managing Director in the pink hat)to do business and celebrate!

Della Shackelford will be Operations Manager. The store website is www.secondchanceresaleboutique.com.

The boutique specializes in current and contemporary clothing and accessories from major department stores. Also they purchase from clients, gently worn name brand clothing and accessories for women, men and children in all sizes.

Some items are big brand names at very small prices like Calvin Klein, Liz Claiborne, Ralph Lauren, Coach, Ann Taylor, Jones New York and Tommy Hilfiger.

As Joc'elyn made her first cash sale, I could see that the place was going to be a hit!

This past week in Kentucky has been a crazy one!

It seemed that we would all wash away from rain every day.

The forecast was rain, rain and cloudy with possible rain.

My yard had started to look like a jungle because it didn't stop raining long enough for the yard guy to cut it.

After being swamped by the rain and work all week, I sort of enjoyed the rain on Friday until the electric went off and the Direct TV went out too.

As soon as that happened, I heard the tornado warning siren go off.

These extremely loud sirens are strategically placed all around Madison County to warn us to take cover. They were installed after the 1974 tornado that took my home and left me with only the clothes on my back. It was tough to start over again.

In just moments, I determined what was important to save. I grabbed my dog, car keys, purse, cell phone and laptop and headed for the basement. Funny how you just don't need much of what you own.

As I settled in to watch the rain that was blowing sideways past the French doors, I could hear... then see emergency vehicles heading down Hwy 52. Lots of them!

Hmmm...I thought there must be a big car wreck down there. A little later I saw one EMS truck headed back up the road headed to the hospital.

Later, the electric came on and I didn't think much more about it. The next morning I found out a tornado had hit a few miles down the road from my house. A few people had died and many more were injured. It didn't seem real somehow.

Sunday morning, I got up early and with my camera in hand, took off to see what had happened.

These scenes are all on Hwy 52 in Kirksville near 1295.

When I got to the disaster area, there were only 2 National Guard units blocking the Adams Place Subdivision.

These pictures were all taken right past the Kirksville Elementary school.

The tornado took the concrete block car repair shop but left a car on the lift!
