Continuing Jobless Claims Drop to 466,000

John Walters (Licensed in Louisiana U.S.A.): Real Estate Agent in Slidell, LA

I moved into my current home about two months ago and have been updating it like there is no tomorrow. My wife is spoiled and wants 2009 right now in every room right now. Naturally being the kind gentle soul mate I am doing my best to satisfy.

Made In ChinaI drive over to the big box do it yourself home improvement stores to buy things I need. I am tired of hearing about how many Americans are out of work so I decided I will buy Made in the U.S.A. as much as possible. You know what? Very little is made in our country anymore. All the brand name faucets Moen, Price Phister and Delta all made in China. You can't find American made products. I know about the world wide economy but my goodness. I thought we still made a few things in this country.

I don't know if we will ever get our unemployment rate down based on what I have seen the past few weeks. I for one am going to do my best to buy American when ever possible.

2009 Breckenridge Subdivison Food Drive Slidell, LA

David W Stewart Jr: Real Estate Agent in Slidell, LA

Every year ABEK Real Estate does an Annual Canned Food Drirve benefiting the Christian Community Concern in Slidell, LA. This year my area was Breckenridge Subdivision. The subdivision consist of around three hundred homes. How this food drive works is we go around our neighborhoods and leave brown paper bags on homeowners doors steps to make a donation of non perishable foods. On the bags are instructions on when we will be back to pick them up. Its that easy!! Its such an easy way to help so many people around the holidays. For the last two years ABEK has been responsible for donating the single largest donation to the CCC ever! This Year I would like to sincerley thank Breckenridge Subdivision for there support and huge contribution to this cause. If you would like any more information about this cause please contact David Stewart with ABEK Real Estate.

'Tis the Season.....

Karin Smith - Realtor in Slidell, La - Listing Agent & Buyers Agent: Real Estate Agent in Slidell, LA

It's Oyster Season!!!

'Tis the Season in Louisiana! It's November and Fall has officially arrived. The temperatures have dropped slightly with our recent and much appreciated 'cool' front and there is so much to be thankful for in Louisiana this time of year! Today, I am thankful it is ........ OYSTER SEASON !!!!

That's right, yummy oysters by the sack-full can be had and consumed to our little hearts desire during the Fall/Winter season!

There is nothing quite like open windows, the smell of fall air blowing in, Saints football on the tv and our minds and fresh shucked oysters on the grill!! This is "Louisiana," this is living!

This weekend, I was lucky enough to enjoy 1/4 sack of freshly shucked oysters at home! Thanks, to Kenny's Seafood on Pontchartrain Blvd. in Slidell, La. for having them available for us!!

My husband cleaned, shucked and chargrilled the entire lot! With the exception of the two dozen we ate right out of the shell with a little freshly made cocktail sauce!! ( Now, whether or not it is safe to eat them raw is an entirely different post - please use caution and check for warnings!! )

For the chargrilled: melt butter in a saucepan, add garlic; lots and lots of freshly minced garlic and cook for a minute or two. Next, add a teaspoon of liquid crab boil, very finely diced green onions and a shake or two of cayenne. Finally, add some freshly grated parmesan, cook only until cheese melts.

Set mixture aside, fire up the grill (that would be The BIG Green Egg, at my house), place oysters in the half shell on the fire, squirt with a wee bit of lemon, spoon butter mixture over each oyster and cook just until the sides curl - about 3 minutes. OH my ... YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!!

Add a win to the Rams resulting in a continued undefeated season of Saints Football and an ice cold beverage of your choice and you've got it made!

This is Louisiana Y'all; This is Living!!

Remember to eat and drink responsibly :)

Enjoy!!
