Won't you be my Valentine?
It's been almost 7 years since the Iraq War began on March 20th 2003. The struggle in Afganistan has been ongoing since 2001. Our media stations no longer dedicate great chunks of news time to what is happening overseas, but yet our military continue to fight for our freedom.
Today I headed to Target to pick up a care package to send to Iraq. My nephew, Nick, is currently serving in Iraq. He is a company Commander on his second tour of duty in the war zone.
Last year his young wife had a lung transplant which delayed his deployment. her recovery has been swift due to her youth and he was then sent to join his soldiers 3 months after the company tour began.
Fortunately for Nick he has a large family who are very close. We take it in turns to send him a package of goodies so that he can be as comfortable as possible despite being many miles away.
I sent him a message on Facebook and asked him what he would like me to send. His response was that he would rather I put together a package to send to one of his troops instead as many of his soldiers have not received anything in quite some time. Nick has always shared what he has been sent, so this was not an unusual request.
Maybe you know a family member or a friend that is serving overseas, maybe you have a client that has a family member who is deployed. Maybe you don't know anyone, but you would like to put a smile on a soldiers face.
Lest we not forget.
Our soldiers deserve to have a few creature comforts. Check out the suggestions for a care package. Many of these items could be added to your weekly groceries without too much hardship.
If you are inclined to put together a small package and do not have a destination, feel free to send them to

I am sure they will be gratefully received.

The 2009 NFL season concluded last night with the XLIV Superbowl played in Miami.
WHAT A GAME!
Historically this is usually a blow out game and most Superbowl parties I have attended everyone loses interest at half time when the outcome is obvious. This was not the case yesterday. It was a gripping game all the way to the end.
Personally I was very happy to see the New Orleans Saints being victorious. My son was named after a mixture of Drew Bledsoe & Drew Brees in the hope he follows in their Quarterback footsteps!!!!
The commercials are a big reason why a lot of people watch the Superbowl.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE AD?
USA Today's Super Bowl Ad Meter ranks all of the ads in real time during the game.
#1 Snickers
#2 Dorittos
#3 Bud Lite
Personally I enjoyed the E-Trade ads.

Sunday February 7th is SUPERBOWL SUNDAY. The Colts and the Saints are in Miami hoping to be the 44th Superbowl champions.
Most of the nation will be glued to the TV watching the festivities and more importantly watching the advertisements during the breaks.
The cost of a 30-second spot for Super Bowl I in 1967 was $42,500 on CBS and $37,500 on NBC. (It was the only time the game was broadcast on two networks). Twenty years and 20 games later, the cost had spiraled to $600,000. For this year's game, CBS is asking $2.6 million.
Is it really appropriate in this struggling economy with millions out of work, families losing their homes and more recently the tragic conditions in Haiti to be spending such outrageous sums of money on a thirty second ad?
