Mike Bowler Sr. CRB, GRI, ePRO, RECS, SRES: Real Estate Brokerage in Lansing, MI

Delta Township has many events and activities to offer residents who are 50 years and older through a program called the 39er's. They have regular activities that include health screening, luncheons, euchre, bridge, and pinochle card parties, holiday crafts, fitness, and much, much more.

There is plenty to do for all ages. Are you interested in finding out more about some of Michigan's highlights for this summer? Chris Dancisak of the Michigan Historical Museum will spotlight some of Michigan's beloved and quirky landmarks at the Delta Township District Library, 5130 Davenport Drive. (just off Elmwood) on May 5, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. Plus, you'll have that opportunity to see the wonderful facility which opened in June, 2008. While you're at it, pick up a library card for the family.

Thinking of a family or company picnic this summer? Some of the best parks in the greater Lansing area are right here in Delta Township. The total acreage utilized for park purposes is over 850 acres. Of that, approximately 317 acres are being utilized for active recreation programs.

Delta Township is a great place to own a home, work, and play for all ages. Home ownership is affordable and many new developments over the past 5 years have continued to make all residents feel proud to say, "I live in Delta Township".

"Expect the Best" Mike

Who's in Charge?

Gary White~ Grand Rapids Real Estate, FlexIt Realty, a call or click away!: Real Estate Agent in Grand Rapids, MI

It is a very widely publicized fact that the Michigan economy is in the tank...so can anyone share with me why we would spend 1.57 million dollars of taxpayers money to clean up a shredded tire pile?Handing out money

OK, I know this is a fire hazard...I know it could cause all kinds of pollution and I also know the farmer that has accumulated this 2.7 acre pile of tires is responsible.

So why is the state forking over our money at a time when the economy is spiraling out of control? Let me mention I don't think many politicians work for the people. I vote for the best of the worst that run. I personally think very few politicians do the right thing...and they don't vote the way a normal reasonable person would vote. For educated people they sure must think we are stupid!

When politicians are voted in they are worried their party won't give them the funds to run again if they buck the system. They are concerned about breaking party lines because they could be outcasts! Didn't they know they were outcasts the minute they didn't vote in the best interest of the people they represent?

We don't step up and say NO often enough! Here is your chance...I have put the link to your Representative and Senators.

http://house.michigan.gov/find_a_rep.asp contact your representative and contact your senator http://senate.michigan.gov/SenatorInfo/find-your-senator.htm

Shredded tiresTell them NO on 1.57 Million DOLLARS for a clean up of a farmers property because the farmer decided to collect and shredded tires. He owns 230 acres...sell the land to fund the cleanup....sorry stupid actions have consequences. When a homeowner doesn't pay their home is forfeited through foreclosure! I would say that less than 1/10th of 1 percent in Michigan have had a foreclosure on their home that cost a bank 1.57 million dollars.

Can you think of any places that money could be used right now other than this? Unemployment compensation, food stamp programs for children, education, teachers, firefighters, policemen and the list goes on....cleanup of someone else's stupidity...NO.

By the way he (Vern Cole) has been saving these tires for 35 years! Where the officials then? This didn't happen yesterday! In fairness to Vern he has said he doesn't want or need the state to clean up of his tires.

Timing is the issue...why now? Why has this been allowed to go on for so long? Timing couldn't be worse...where is a govenor when you need one? She has a veto vote! Make people accountable.

Here is the hazard list these tires cause according to the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality)

  • They shelter mosquitoes that could carry Encephalitis and West Nile.
  • Breeding grounds for snakes, rats and disease carrying animals.
  • Fire hazard. (really none of us would have guessed this one)
  • They emit hazardous oils and soot when burned

1.57 Million in cleanup ear marked because Vern Cole decided to collect tires for 35 years. Sorry Vern, we shouldn't have to step up and cleanup your mess. You pay to clean it up or lose the farm. May sound callus but the fact is...we just set an example for others to create junk piles and we foot the bill.

Time to say NO! Not this time or anytime in the future! Send YOUR Representative an email...tell them NO!
