The City of Hendersonville just posted a new item of interest for all City Residences. They are partnering with the National League of Cities (NLC) to provide discount cards administered by CVS Pharmacy. Use of the card will give you an average of 20% discount off of the retail cost of the medications you need. Savings may vary between drugs and pharmacies, but if you have no medication coverage, this will help a lot.
You can go to the City of Hendersonville website and read more about it.
You can check the website for CVS Caremark for a list of participating pharmacies and find FAQ's about the program.
You will be able to print a card for yourself right there on line. If you are not in our area but want to see if your city is participating in this program, check with this website for other NLC cities.
If you know anyone with this need, please pass it along. This is a FREE Program and costs nothing to sign up.

Last night I watched Clare Danes in the movie Temple Grandin in the movie by the same name. First off what a great name. It really intrigued me.
And what an incredible person! Suffering from Autism, this woman was pushed by her mother to achieve greatness. With all of the big doors blocking her way, this woman has achieved more in her lifetime than I could ever imagine in mine. And she continuously walked through those tough doors over and over.
She not only graduated from High School, she went on to get a Bachelor's in Science and then a Masters, and a Doctorate. She has revolutionized the treatment of livestock, making humane treatment in cattle farms and slaughterhouses a priority. She is one of the few that design facilities for handling cattle, and consults with such big companies as Burger King and McDonalds. Her theory is that these animals give to us so much in sustaining our lives, and we owe them in treating them humanly as we raise them for our sustenance. Her website speaks to this fact.
Dr. Grandin has also authored several books:
Dr. Grandin's current bestselling book on autism is The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger's. She also authored Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships, Animals Make us Human, Animals in Translation, Thinking in Pictures, Emergence: Labeled Autistic and produced several DVDs. All books and DVD's available through Future Horizons.
This movie is showing on HBO this month and is really great. I will admit that there were several disturbing scenes of animal brutality. But it was worth getting through to see the great things she has done and how much she has accomplished.
It is a great movie about the dedication of a Mother and Aunt to understand and love this incredible child, and give her all she needed, no matter how frustrating and hard it was. For parents of Autistic children, it is a story of hope.

We are having one of the worst ice storms I have seen here in my 5 years as a residence of Henderson County. You can see from the Accu-Weather Report that it is not looking good. We have had every combination of weather you can imagine since thursday around 2:30 PM. It has gone from rain to sleet to snow and then to rain and back again. Moisture has come down non-stop since then, slowing sometime overnight, But it is supposed to stay like this for a while with a rapid freeze warning for the next 6 hours.
Here is what I am seeing from my front door.
Trees and limbs have fallen all around my home. Even though I am lucky enough to have electric so far, I am very concerned about trees coming down on my house. I can hear them falling in the woods around me and it has been stressful.
I hope that everyone is staying put and not going out if you don't have to.

We are having another storm, this one an ice storm. Yesterday it started with a light icy snow, then rain and then sleet and then rain... It has not stopped coming down since yesterday afternoon, around 2:30. As I look out the window, the trees are covered in icicles and water is dripping from everything.
This storm has the entire area shut down, everything is closed and there are 20,000 people in the Hendersonville area alone. We are under a storm warning until Saturday I think.
I know that all of you in the Northern states are probably asking what the big deal is, but for us this is unheard of. Normally we get maybe one snow that is gone the next day, or one bad ice storm that lasts less than 24 hours. Never anything like this. We have been under white since before Christmas with barely a week of nice days. We are warn out from this and as unprepared as can be. I will be so happy for the first day of spring!
