HOLLIS NH REAL ESTATE
Real estate professionals from RE/MAX Country Properties can assist you in finding the right property to meet your needs and provide you with specific information about the community. A brief look into the community of Hollis, NH:
Hollis, New Hampshire still maintains strong ties with its rural past. Originally settled as a part of Dunstable, Massachusetts, the town was incorporated by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth in 1746. Once known mainly for its corn, strawberries, orchards, and dairy and poultry farms, this affluent bedroom community is now also home to a number of business executives and their families.
Despite the changes, Hollis has managed to preserve its small-town character. The Historic District in the center of town includes more than 100 historic homes and buildings, including the public library, town hall, the Congregational Church, and the Always Ready Engine House, which is now the home of the Historical Society. A number of other historic farmhouses and homes can be found throughout town. The Historic District Commission is in the process of applying to get the entire district listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Outside of the town center, sprawling orchards, rolling fields, and stately farms sit alongside large contemporary homes. More than 2,000 acres of town land remain in active agricultural use today. There are several farms and apple orchards located in the community, offering locally grown produce and the opportunity to pick your own strawberries and apples. The town also hosts several annual festivities enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, including the Strawberry Festival in June, Old Home Day in September, and the Apple Festival in October.
The Beaver Brook Association conservation area encompasses 1,500 acres and offers 25 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and other activities. Silver Lake is another popular recreation site and is home to Silver Lake State Park.

| The Beaver Brook Association, in Hollis, New Hampshire, exists to promote the understanding of interrelationships in the natural world, and to encourage conservation of natural resources through education and land stewardship.
The annual Fall Festival features many activities for the entire family... children's music and stories, puppet shows, live music, baked goods and fresh cider, guided trail hikes, beautiful gardens and live animal presentations. Beaver Brook offers programs throughout the year in every season, including summer youth programs for children. The Maple Hill Gardens are maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers. The focal point of the fall festival is an art and photography exhibit at the Maple Hill Farm. Over a hundred regional artists and photographers exhibit their work, and most is for sale to the public. One of my favorite events this time of year is the Beaver Brook Association Fall Festival. This year marks the 28th annual festival.
The mission of the fall nature festival is to get people to enjoy nature. There are activities to emphasize the importance of wildlife and environmental conservation as well.
The theme of the art and photography show is Nature. There is no limitation on who can submit art...entrties are submitted from kids to professionals.
You won't want to miss the two live animal shows. I was in awe and amazed by these shows. One live animal show is a presentation by the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center on local wildlife. Live animals such as turtles and porcupines are featured.
The other live animal show highlights North American Birds of Prey which is presented by Wingmasters. At the show I saw birds such as eagles and hawks and I got a couple of great pictures.
The Beaver Brook Fall festival has something for the entire family. Visitors from New Hampshire and beyond make it a point to attend. Last year there were over 1200 attendees! You can also enjoy:
Short History of Beaver Brook Association
In 1964 the Beaver Brook Association was founded by Hollis P. Nichols and Jeffrey P. Smith, both of Hollis, New Hampshire. They began with 12 acres of land. Their vision was to foster land stewardship awareness and encourage a sense of appreciation for the natural world. The State of New Hampshire chartered Beaver Brook Association as an educational non-profit organization.
Currently there are over 2,000 acres located in Hollis, Brookline, and Milford, New Hampshire. Hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, biking and many other activities are enjoyed by families on 35 miles of trails. The trails are carefully mapped and designated for activities that will have the least impact on the particular area.

| One of the most popular traditions in Hollis, New Hampshire is Old Home Days, which is held on a weekend during September.
There is often an Old Home Day Dance the Friday night before that is very popular with students on Nichols Field. There are often carnival rides and attractions set up the night of the dance in preparation for the following day.
