New Hampshire’s unemployment rate in 2011 averaged 5.4 percent, the lowest rate in New England and one of the lowest rates in the country, according to an analysis released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
New Hampshire’s unemployment rate fell appreciably, from a arate of 6.1 percent in 2010.
The national average in 2011 was 8.9 percent, and the New England-wide jobless rate was 7.7 percent.
Except for the late 1970s and a few years in the early 1990s, New England’s unemployment rate has been better than the national average for all 36 years that the bureau has collected the data.
The jobless rate improved in virtually the entire nation in 2011, compared to 2010.
