Somersworth NH welcome sign

Located only 15 minutes north of Portsmouth New Hampshire lies the small town of Somersworth. Sligo, the original name of the city of Somersworth, was a part of a larger area called Dover, settled in 1700. Organized as the Parish of Summersowrth in 1729 and then incorporated as a separate town in 1754. Due to a clerical error, the incorporation changed the spelling to Somersworth. Only to be lated incorporated as the City of Somersworth in 1893.

With a rich history as a mill town, imigrants flocked to the city from all over the world. Textiles were the main source for employment, but there were also several sawmills, and cotton and woolen manufacturing buildings.

Somersworth NH boy scouts to serve as color guard for a Bruins Game

Bill Somerset, Realtor, Your Dover NH Real estate agent: Real Estate Agent in Dover, NH

welcome to New Hampshire sign

The more and more I write my blogs, luckily for me, the more and more I have been noticed. As most of you may know by now, I am very involved in youth sports, in particular, youth hockey. My son Micheal is a member of the Somersworth Berwick Black Bears youth hockey team at the Mites level. For any of you that know about youth hockey, you will know what a Mite is, between the ages of 5 and 8. I am also the head coach for the Mites team, and am a member of the Board of Directors for (SBYHA) Somersworth Berwick Youth Hockey.

I often write about my community involvement, my plans with the team, and our fund-raising efforts. It seems that residents of Somersworth New Hampshire are now reading my blogs! (YEAH ME!) I was contacted last week by the supervisor of the recreation department for the city of Somersworth asking for a little bit of help. You see, not only do I blog, and am heavily involved with SBYH, but I am the webmaster for the hockey programs website! www.leaguelineup.com/somersworthberwick The supervisor Darryl asked if I could announce the fact that the Somersworth New Hampshire cub scouts and boy scouts will be serving as color guard for the Boston Bruins final, regular season, home game. The recreation department is offering transportation to the game, and a ticket for entry, all for only $50! I told Darryl that I would be honored to do so and that I would do whatever he needed to help him out.

Boston Bruins

....Come watch the Bruins take on division rival Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, April 5th for an evening face-off at 7:00 p.m. Members of the Somersworth Boy Scouts/Cub Scouts will serve as color guard during the playing of the National Anthem prior to the game. This is the Bruins final game of the regular season and will serve as "Fan Appreciation Day". Bus leaves at 4:00 p.m. from the Flanagan Center. $50 per person includes ticket and transportation. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tickets can be purchased at the Somersworth Recreation Department in City Hall. For more information, call 692-9508.

So, there you go Darryl, I hope this was a good enough plug for you!

Somersworth New Hampshire youth baseball receives grant for outstanding community participation

Somersworth New Hampshire

The Somersworth New Hampshire Youth Baseball League was awarded a $2500 grant this past week for it's outstanding community participation. The grant, offer by Liberty Mutual Insurance, is one,of only twenty given to communities around the country.

Somersworth NH youth baseball

The youth baseball and softball program in Somersworth New Hampshire, like many other youth initiatives around America, is funded, and operated by volunteers and donors. Without the participation and generous donations by parents, coaches, local companies, and national companies, programs like this would not be possible.

The most recent grant, funded by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, is called the Responsible Sports Program. The program helps recognize the value of parents, coaches, and the community working together for a common cause, the Kids! In order to qualify for the grant, participants needed to complete an on-line course at Responsible coaching, or Responsible parenting and then take a 10 question quiz at the end of the course. Every completed course and quiz counted for 1 point. The community with the most points at the end was granted the $2500!

It is reasons like this that I am proud to say that I am a member of the community of Somersworth New Hampshire. Together we can make a great place for our children to grow, learn, and ensure a safe a positive experience through sports.
