This is a story from our local newspaper, Foster's Daily Democrat. I wanted to share this story because I think it's a great thing this young boy has done. This is just another reason why I love living where I do. The people around me are so loving and caring.

As an annual tradition, sixth grader Jay Gallipo, 11, asked his birthday party guests for non-perishable food items instead of gifts. He donated the boxes of food to St. Joseph's Food Pantry in Dover on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

He chose this charity because it is so close to Thanksgiving, and it is a hard year for so many people.

Bringing a little holiday spirit to those who need it most!

This holiday we will be collecting donations for the Dover Children's Home. It's a wonderful organization that for over a century has dedicated itself to caring for children in need.

Please help us make this holiday season one to remember for these children!

Donations will be accepted at our office Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 5:30 pm.

Final collection day will be Friday, December 18th.

This year, much like most others, I will be involved in a lot of community development and charitable organizations. I came across one scholarship in particular that really struck a cord. A local family, the Doucette's lost their son Brian in 2007 when a drunk driver struck a car he was riding in.

Brian was an all around athlete. Playing in multiple sports throughout his life. Hockey was his passion. In his memory, a scholarship was created. The Brian W. Doucette scholarship is awarded every year to a local hockey player. As many of you know, hockey is a large part of my life, and my families lives. I grew up playing hockey, and now my son plays hockey. We are a tight community that sticks together and helps eachother out through good times and bad.

Century 21 Central Falls Realty will be sponsoring the 1st annual "smile every mile for Douce" 5k road race/walk, to be held in Dover New Hampshire on October 24th, 2009. The race will start and finish at Dover High School, Dover New Hampshire, and will be a USATF certified course. All proceeds will benefit the Brian W. Doucette scholarship. The Somersworth Recreation Department is offering a trip to TD Banknorth Garden to see the Boston Bruins face off against the New Jersey Devils on Friday, Nov. 27^th.
