Fallon, Nevada Hosts The Perfect Stay Vacation For Northern Nevadans

Sandra Mathewson, CRS, ABR, GRI, SFR: Real Estate Agent in Fernley, NV

Go east, foodies. Fallon wants you. On April 24th, the city about 60 miles east of Reno is presenting "Tractors & Truffles," an inaugural all day event combining a farm tour and lunch, a winery tour and tasting. Followed by a tented dinner in a park starring local ingredients and a four course dinner with wine pairing prepared by a team of award winning chefs, including Steve Hernandez of the Slanted Porch, Mark Davis, Cordon Bleu, and Ryan Scott, Bravo's Top Chef Chicago. The gourmet dinner will be served at historic Oats Park, and it will include locally grown beef, produce and wine from northern Nevada farms.

The event begins with lunch and a tour of "Lattin Farms", known regionally for its corn maze and on-farm bakery. The fifth generation family farm celebrated 100 years of farming in 2009.

Wine tasting and a tour of Churchill Vineyards, Nevada's only estate winery, will follow lunch. Churchill Vineyards grows 10 different varieties of fine European wine grapes and is considered a pioneer in Nevada's wine and viticulture industry. Father and son Charlie and Colby Frey established the winery on the fourth generation farm in 2001.

Blues music award winner and country blues artist Rory Block provides a nightcap to the event with a performance in Barkley Theater, considered the finest small performing arts house in Nevada.

Block has won five WC Handy Blues Music Awards, and according to the Blues Foundation, she is widely regarded as the top female interpreter and authority on traditional country blues worldwide.

"Tractors & Truffles" showcases two of Fallon's greatest assets, its small farm agriculture industry and the vital and eclectic arts scene.

The event seeks to broaden Fallon's appeal by mingling the growing interest in local food and food tourism with the City's agriculture heritage and the resources of its 28,000 square foot, $5 million-plus Oats Park Art Center.

Ticket are $100 and can be purchased by calling toll free (866) 432-5566. More information is available at www.tractorsandtruffles.com.

Finally, it looks like Spring is on the way. Winter has just dragged on and on while teasing us with a sporadic day of sunshine here and there. Spring will be short because summer is almost here, which means it is time for us to get ready to enjoy some time outdoors with friends and family.

Churchill County is full of many opportunities you can take advantage of as the temperatures start to climb. If you are looking for a perfect family weekend getaway this summer without spending a lot of money, take the family to Lahontan Reservoir. You don't have to be an expert camper or a wiz in the water to enjoy everything available to us right in our own backyard.

You may ask, "What do I need to camp"?. The answer is simple, all you need is the spirit of adventure, a joy of the outdoors and a decent amount of bug spray. Include a tent and some food and you can have yourself an incredible time. Enjoy family time with your loved ones with no distractions, sleep under the stars and enjoy playing in the lake together.

Forget the cell phone and computer and pay attention to the people in your life who matter the most. At Lahontan, there is a small entrace fee of $5 charged for Nevada residents and some additional fees for camping and boating. You can spend more than one night or a whole weekend there, The many recreation options available including fishing, as the reservoir is always well stocked with game fish. There are several areas for camping with decent restrooms and facilities for those people not wanting to be without all the comforts of home.

For additional information on the reservoir and water levels, you can call them at 775-867-3500. However, if camping isn't your style, there are still plenty of things that can be done right here in Fallon. You can break out your favorite tube and float the river. There is something to be said about a lazy day just floating peaceably down a river under the hot sun.

Another great idea is a backyard BBQ and show off all your cooking skills? Bring out the volleyball net, croquet set or horseshoes. Let the kids run through the sprinkler while the hamburgers sizzle.

If you are looking for a more structured recreational activity use the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department, they are only a phone call away. Different programs are available each month for groups of all ages, from youth to adult, the choices are varied. From sports camps to the outdoor 4x4 field trips, there is something for everyone. You can always let the department know if there is something not available that you are interested in.

Feel free to be as creative as you want and do whatever you can to have fun. The summer is the best time to get out and see nature's beauty and spend it with friends and family.

Thanks to Danny Gleich, Recreation-Athletic Supervisor with Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department for great ideas!

Why do credit card companies target College Students

Samantha Wilson: Loan Officer in Las Vegas, NV
first credit card Many credit card companies see the marketing potential in college students. Credit card companies use promotional offers and free gifts like t-shirts, coffee mugs, or CDs to entice students on signing up for their company. Have you ever asked why? Loyalty is a good reason. Credit card companies are competing to be the first credit card that the student will own. By being their first credit card, it is very likely that even when they graduate from college and enter the corporate world, students will be upgrading their credit cards with the same credit card company. Students are Big Spenders Aside from this, college students are great spenders. Let’s face it, credit card companies love customers who spend much using their credit cards. The more a person uses his credit card, the better it is for the business. And students are usually prone to over spending or using their credit cards excessively not just for their school necessities but on luxuries as well. Despite the fact that college students are still in school and most do not have stable jobs to finance them, credit card companies are still doing everything to encourage these students on obtaining a student credit cards. Furthermore, credit card companies are encouraging students to use their credit cards as often as they can. Read Full Article: Why do credit card companies target College Students
