Why do I get the feeling that some Realtors do not like inspectors?

Inspector David Snell: Inspector in Charlotte, NC

Happy New year to all.

Why do I get the feeling that Realtors do not like some inspectors? Could it be because inspectors are paid to perform an inspection and if the house has problems or conditions that need addressing then, he or she puts them down in the report. If an inspector is worth their salt then he or she is going to be detailed as well as find problems. Look hard and long enough at anything and anybody and you will find faults.

I get the feeling that some time the Realtor wants some inspectors to not be very thorough. So, why do some Realtors not want the inspector to not be so thorough? Even if there is a problem, most problems can be fixed. If folks want a home sold, then is it not just best to have problems found, and have them repaired? I have been told by some Realtors at times that if an inspection would not have been performed then the deal would not have been blown. When I hear this, I just about want to scream. I know that both Realtors want a deal to go through but if my representing Realtor ever said this to me then I would be very disappoointed.

I know that many Realtors are great just like inspectors and there are bad apples in every bunch.

Inspectors should have ethics as well as Realtors. I am all for this.

If you were to buy a house, would you not want the inspector to be very detailed and find any problems, providing they existed of course? If it was your money? Of course you would!

Another question I have. Do you ever request that an infra red scan be performed to a home before the buyer buys the house? Or do you just typically just suggest a general home inspection be performed? Do most folks even know what a infra red scan will do and can do and what kind of information you will have after performing an infra red scan to a home.? Many of times, without the use of the infra red scan, we are not able to determine what is going on behind walls and ceilings without performing an infra red scan. When you have a physical every year, providing that you do, do you not want tests to be run to make sure that you do not have problems and if so, do some thing that can be done to correct any problems? For example, when I have a physical, I have all kinds of lab work done. My health care provider may tell me I look fine but until tests are run how will he or she be able to tell me or be able to determine what is going on with my body of flesh? Does this make sense?

I would appreciate any of yours input on this subject.

If it is hot, stay cool with plenty of water and shade.

Aloha,

David
