Welcome to Sole FX, the (Diabetic) Feet Fixing Folks in Owasso, Oklahoma! Sole FX is quickly becoming the place people turn to when their feet hurt due to diabetes and/or other foot related problems. That's because Mark Dougherty, founder and owner of the business takes excellent care of his patients.

Opening in January 2008, in an Owasso, Oklahoma storefront shop, Mark has built his Sole FX business by providing top notch, hands on customer service. And it's paid off. And why would Mark Dougherty do that? "I decided I wasn't a very good employee...for anyone," he said. So he decided to be a boss...well that isn't exactly true. He decided to be a small business owner doing what he knew and loved - helping people alleviate foot pain whether it be from diabetes or from some other cause.

And why would Mark chose to open Sole FX in Owasso, Oklahoma? Because Owasso was already a huge market area drawing people all the way from southern Kansas and Missouri. And demographic studies show that those who live in surrounding communities like Skiatook, Collinsville, Oologah, Talala and Claremore already come to Owasso, Oklahoma for shopping and other needs. So Mark took a look around and saw that nobody was providing the kind of service that Sole FX provides. With over 50,000+ diabetics in the greater Tulsa area alone, he knew he had the found the right spot for his business (ad)venture.

So what exactly is it that Mark Dougherty and his crew do at Sole FX? They help people who have feet problems or foot pain. Their specialty is, of course, diabetic shoes and inserts. Diabetic patients often require special shoes or inserts that fit their feet properly. This is because the feet are the furthest parts of your body from your heart. And diabetes impacts blood flow. Reduce good blood flow to any part of your body and you'll have some serious problems pretty quickly. This is what happens (as I understand it) with a diabetic patient's feet. A small sore or ulcer can quickly become a very big problem. There are other foot related problems as well for diabetics such as Diabetic neuropathy and Peripheral vascular disease.

But Sole FX isn't just for diabetic patients. Ever heard of plantar fasciitis? Sole FX is ready to help you if you ever find yourself unable to stand up due to the pain this condition causes.

Got one leg a bit shorter than the other one? Sole FX can take your shoes and build one up in their fabrication shop so that suddenly, you're walking nice and level.

And Sole FX carries the newest and coolest shoes designed to provide support and comfort for folks who are on their feet all day. A few of the brands they stock include Brooks and Spira, a specialized running shoe worn by Dick Hoyt and Hunter Kemper.

When you visit Sole FX you'll meet Nick Tirello whose official title is "The Man." Nick has been at the store since January, but is already a great fit on the team as the fabrication specialist. If you need a shoe or insert built, rebuilt or altered, Nick is the man for the job.

You'll also meet Susan Runge, certified shoe fitter and pedorthic assistant. Susan has been with Sole FX for about a year, but has been in the business for 28 years. Needless to say, Susan knows her stuff when it comes to making your feet comfortable. And Susan knows her patients too. She's the kind of person who treats you like family and instantly makes you feel welcomed.

I asked Mark what the most rewarding part of owning and running Sole FX was. He said, "The nearly instant gratification for patients when they put on their shoes or try out their inserts. That makes my day."

Due to their growth and business opportunities, Sole FX has now opened a second location in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 3623 South Harvard. One thing that I love about Mark and Sole FX is their heart for others. Mark participates in the Soles 4 Souls program which was started by a group in Alabama. The goal is to distribute gently used shoes to as many of the 300 million people in the world who do not have a single pair of shoes as is possible. Last year Sole FX teamed up with Owasso High school and collected over 400 pairs of shoes for the Soles 4 Souls program. If you've got a good pair of shoes in your closet gathering dust, bring them in and let Mark and his team get them to someone less fortunate.

As I was wrapping up my visit with Mark, I asked him if he had ever fitted someone famous with a pair of shoes or inserts. Sure enough, he had. It was Jared the Subway guy!

Owasso Pawn is the friendliest Pawn shop you'll find in the town of Owasso, Oklahoma. Located at 106 E 2nd Ave # B, Owasso, OK, and owned by Marlin Kerr since 2006, it offers a wonderful treasure trove of items that can be purchased. It's one of those places where the more you look around, the more you find. For example, you'll find CD's and DVD's, jewelry and tools, rings, coins, electric and acoustic guitars and amps and even horse saddles and golf clubs. I was surprised to look down one isle and to find an ocean rig fishing pole. Owasso Pawn truly is a cross section of the Owasso and North Eastern Oklahoma communities.

Now some folks think of Pawn shops as mostly "man" stores. But this is not the case at the Owasso Pawn shop. On the day I was there, a lady came in to pay her bill and to see if she needed to pay for anything her husband might owe on. Another lady was shopping for CD's. While at the same time, a gentleman was trying the various bass guitars. He was looking for one to play at his new church. So, while Tim the Toolman Taylor would feel at home in the store, it's also a place that everyone else feels welcomed too.

Mr. Kerr managed the Owasso Pawn shop beginning in 1992. One might say he has a knack for customer service, building up the inventory and client base since taking over as owner. He and his son, Matt (and new son) and a solid crew of employees run the business, chew the fat, talk up the politics of the day and create an atmosphere where folks like to come...and then come again. It's not unusual to find an Owasso Police officer hanging out when they have a rare free moment.

One of the unique services Owasso Pawn offers is the processing of utility payments. You can pay your electric bill there (PSO, but not Verdigris Valley), your gas bill, AT&T, Cox cable, Direct TV, DISH satellite and even your Mastercard and Visa bills.

The Pawn shop accepts cars, boats and anything of value. At times, they've had a Mercedes, a BMW and even a dump truck. Boats come and go as well. Owasso Pawn is probably best known for being the place to buy, sell and pawn guns in our area. They have a vast collection of fire arms with a wide range of calibers. They also carry pistols, although not as many. And when he can stock it, he also carries ammunition.

"One of the strangest things anyone ever tried to pawn was a frying pan that still had the grease in it," said Marlin. He didn't take it on pawn. He's also been asked if he would take dogs and horses. The answer is no.

The Owasso Pawn shop building began its life as the Owasso Wells IGA. The picture of the old IGA store can be found in the Owasso Applebees.

So if you're looking for a place to get lost for an hour on a lazy afternoon, or if you need a little bit of extra cash or if you just want to hang out with some down home friendly folks, head down to the Owasso Pawn shop. You'll be glad you did!

Welcome to Owasso, Oklahoma, a wonderful place to call home!

Owasso is an Indian word that means "end of the trail." History records that sometime around 1900, Owasso was the location where the several railroads ended and had to turn around. In 1904, Owasso became a town under the laws of Indian Territory, and eventually was chartered as a city in 1972.

Through the years Owasso has grown from a sleepy town of mostly homes and residents to a thriving city with shopping, new home construction, two hospitals and lots to do.

The population of Owasso by summer of 2008 was right around 27,500. This is a marked increase of almost 50% growth since the year 2000. For further stats on the make up of Owasso, visit the city data page by clicking here.

I took a quick driving tour yesterday to see what shopping and other places of business I could find on the way to pick up my lunch. Here's a few from the route I took.

This is the new First Bank of Owasso. The first picture is of the building under construction, before the exterior went on. The second picture shows you the building much further along in the construction process. This will be the tallest building in Owasso at 5 stories. First bank was begun by the Sokolosky family on September 8, 1962. It continues to provide home town, first rate service.

First Bank isn't the only bank in town anymore, however. Many new banks have moved in. ONB is one of them.

Needless to say, with almost 50% growth over the last decade, shopping and retail will grow. This is Waterford Plaza, Braums Ice Cream Store and the Owasso Market, which is the home of our Wal-Mart.

Here's just a few of our places to go out an eat...Delta Cafe and Cracker Barrel.

There are a whole lot more places to eat and shop in Owasso. As I said, this is a quick tour as I was driving around. I'll tell you about Smith Farm Shopping Center and some of our other restaurants on my next trip around town.

I'm getting locked up for a good cause! The Muscular Dsytrophy Association, or Jerry's kids, raises money each year to help find a cure for this terrible disease.

I got a call yesterday that a good friend of mine, Mark Daughtry, had turned me in. Mark owns Sole FX in Owasso, OK. His store specializes in rapid relief for aching feet. Now I'm going to be locked up on August 25th...for a good great cause! I'm going to help raise money for Jerry's kids this year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Welcome to our beautiful Timber Gate subdivision in Owasso, Oklahoma, a wonderful place to call home.

Located in one of the fastet growing suburbs of Tulsa, Timber Gate offers large, beautiful full brick homes with side entry garages. Houses for sale begin at $249,900 and run as high as $669,900. The average square foot size is right around 3000 square feet. Homes sit on 1 acre lots.

Interestingly, Timber Gate does not offer sidewalks. This is not terribly unusual as several of Owasso's Roger's county neighborhoods do not. Some of these neighborhoods include Scissortail Ridge, Stone Canyon, Dover Pond and Clearbrook. The neighborhood does not have a neighborhood pool or park area either.

You'll love the mature trees and rocky outcropping you will find in the neighborhood, although you'll have to look in the back of the neighborhood to find the most trees. At this time, most of the homes that are for sale are in the back of the neighborhood also.

Timber Gate can be a great place to buy a home. Due to the new construction in Stone Canyon and the new construction in Timber Gate, some homes are sitting for sale for extended periods of time. This makes for a great buy on brand new construction homes!
