About Logan County, OK

Many of my clients that are relocating to Oklahoma don't have the luxury of hopping in their car and cruising through a neighborhood after finding a home online. The reality for a lot of them is that they only get one house finding trip to an area before making a decision. That can be pretty stressful.

So when I can, I like to help them out by taking my video camera along as I drive through for them. You could call it home finding reconnaissance!! It gives them a look at the whole picture outside of the house they are interested in.

Over the weekend, one of my relocation clients inquired about a home listed in Antler Ridge. Because it's new construction there were only a few pictures posted to the MLS. So today I went on a recon mission and drove through Antler Ridge in Deer Creek for them.

Now, remember I'm a Realtor. I sell homes in Edmond and Deer Creek. I'm not a cinematographer. So sometimes the camera shakes and you can see a glare from my dashboard. So what. You can still see the homes in the neighborhood. You can tell if neighbors take care of their yards and see if kids are playing outside. That's what's important when you are buying a home.

Do you remember Aesop's fable about the country mouse and the city mouse? The city mouse visited the country mouse and was not very kind to him. He told him how much better it was in the city. If living in the Oklahoma countryside suits you best, there are some fabulous opportunities for USDA Rural Development Loans. These loans offer up to 100% financing on homes in rural areas. There is a 3.5% funding fee, but that can be rolled into the loan. Not all areas are eligible for this financing. As a matter of fact, most of Oklahoma County is not. However, Logan County is. Saturday, October 9 from 8-3 the Guthrie/Edmond Regional Airport is hosting an open haouse. There will be aircraft on display like warbirds, amateur built aircraft, gyrocopters, helicopters, civil air patrol, and Jim Gardner with Chopper 4. There will be plenty of food vendors and various drawings throughout the day.

But the most exciting thing is that EAA Chapters 24 and 1098 will offer free Young Eagle flights to kids 8-17 beginning at 9:00. Of course a release signed by a parent or guardian will be required! What a fun day that will be!

Guthrie is a part of the Oklahoma City metro area of Oklahoma known for its nineteenth and twentieth century architecture and as the first capital of Oklahoma. Major attractions include The Masonic Temple and The Guthrie Historic District. Each year in October enjoy the Art and Wine Festival and the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival. Among the biggest companies in Guthrie are Guthrie News and Pollard Theatre. The biggest school is Guthrie High School. One of the best places to visit when you are in Guthrie is Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library. Twister and Rain Man both had scenes filmed in Guthrie.

I’m not able to find this building today, nor any information about it. This is, however, typical of the 19th and 20th century architecture you still find in Guthrie. It really is a fun place to visit!
