Ladies Night Out

Kathy Clulow ASP® SRES®: Real Estate Agent in Uxbridge, ON

No were not talking about a Chip and Dale event

but we are talking about a business that recognizes times have changed and so has who we market to. They recognize that what once worked well is no longer enough. Like today's web savvy real estate professionals they recognize that it is not enough to open a store front do a little newspaper advertising and sit back and wait

They recognize the importance of getting involved in the community and paying back with a variety of programs such as their Huck Finn Youth Fishing Day. They recognize the need for a corporate social conscience.

TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!

There was a time when the male members of our species dominated the aisles of this local haunt. It was almost their exclusive domain with little to attract the average female. Over time it has evolved and responded to the market place. Last year this event had the ladies lined up around the store waiting patiently to get in

What Are We Talking About

We are talking about Canadian Tire, A store that is holding a Ladies Night Sunday April 19th, 6:30 to 9:30 pm where every lady who enters will receive a free give away and have the opportunity to win one of the fabulous draw prizes.

An evening where ladies will take over the aisles once dominated by car parts and accessories in search of "Ladies Only" bargains such as, one of the one hundred, 11 pc Lagostina Padova cookware sets that are marked down from $519.99 to a low of $159.00

A store that recognizes the power of the purse

Just as the Real Estate Industry has changed to meet the changing demands of the market place Canadian Tire has evolved from what was predominately an automotive store, where the auto service center and automotive section dominated the store, to today's store where the automotive section occupies less that 1/3 of the retail space, a store that competes in the same market place as Wallmart, Home Depot, and other major retailers.

Kathy Clulow ASP® SRES®: Real Estate Agent in Uxbridge, ON

Ah!! The days of our youth, the days of building a raft and floating it on the pond in the field, pretending to be Huckleberry Finn, your head filled with dreams of being on the raft as it lazily drifts down the meandering Mississippi River.

Ah!! Those carefree days, filled with memories to be shared with your children.

Share some of those memories on Sat April 25th. Bring your youngsters out to Elgin pond in Uxbridge and reminisce about those days. Teach your kids the fine art of fishing as you join in this Uxbridge Youth Fishing Event.

No Fishing Gear No Problem There is free fishing rod and reel loaners and free bait.

One of the first things you do is line up for your poles and cup of worms....always a challenge to get the wiggly worms on those little hooks, but there is usually a local celebrity or two that can be coerced into lending a hand, it's all in the fun of the day. This event is well attended by parents, grandparent and plenty of kids, even in the rain the kids excitement is contagious.

This is the seventh year for the Huck Finn Fishing Day with local sponsors that include Canadian Tire, Durham Regional Police, The Uxbridge Legion, Blitxcreek Pro Fising, The Optimists, The town of Uxbridge, as well as others. Together they put on a very good day for all participants.

5th Annual Silverbirch Concert

Historic Uxbridge Buildings - The Music Hall

Uxbridge Blugrass Concert to Support the ArtsCan Circle

Once again Silverbirch, a five piece Bluegrass band, hosts an evening of acoustic music at the Uxbridge Music Hall.

In the past this fund raiser has provided funds to worthy causes such as The Stephan Lewis Foundation, The Cancer Society, The Uxbridge Youth Centre and other local causes.

This year's focus is on at risk youth in Canada's native communities with the funds raised being given to The ArtsCan Circle .

Five piece blugrass bandThe ArtsCan Circle was inspired by the work of Mike Stevens, a multi-talented harmonica player who had been traveling to Native communities in Labrador, at his own expense, to share his music and distribute hundreds of harmonicas in an effort to help his young listeners discover music for themselves.

An independent, volunteer-run group the ArtsCan Circle is working to link creative artists with Native youth at risk in Canada. Their hope is to encourage self-esteem amongst Native youth in isolated communities through a cooperative exploration of the arts.

The ArtsCan Circle organizes on-going visits by musicians and artists who share their creative resources. Several volunteers have had the opportunity to travel to the two Innu communities of Nataushsish and Sheshatshiu in Labrador where Mike started this whole idea. Nataushish is the re-located Davis Inlet, a community widely recognized for its problems. The children truly appreciate the chance to make music and, at least for a little while, escape the troubles of their daily lives.

Individuals and organizations have responded to the work of The ArtsCan Circle by contributing musical instruments and financial donations. At this point, the instrument collection is overwhelming and the need is definitely financial. Money is required to fund trips to the villages and the transportation costs are significant. Although the musicians and artists donate their time, ArtsCan pays for airfare and ground transportation for the teams to distribute the instruments and run workshops for the kids. visit the ArstCan Circle website for more information

Has Spring Really Sprung

Keep Your Children Away From Swollen Streams and Rivers

Almost 8 weeks earlier than last year the rivers and streams around Uxbridge are swollen with the early thaw. Near record temperatures have melted all but the piles of snow around the edge of driveways roadways and parking lots. With the ground still frozen the water quickly forms into rivulets running into the streams and rivers that abound in and around Uxbridge.

Water in local rivers can rise overnight into dangerous torrents as can be seen in Dangerous Waters Abound.
