What's better than the build up before Christmas? The scent of evergreens are lingering in the air, kids are bundling up a little more at their bus stops and holiday commercials are already in full swing. But what sets Florence apart is our
annual tree lighting festival to welcome the holiday season.
Hundreds gather at the Gazebo Park in Old Town and kids have a certain sparkle in their eyes. They know what's soon coming down the lane and into their homes on Christmas Eve. Florence gets us all in the mood on December 3rd at 4:30pm for the Annual Florence Community Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration. A beautiful evergreen tree, donated this year by Sam and Carol Saiia, will be placed in the town center and lit to the hilt with hundreds of glowing colors.
Be sure to arrive on time as Santa and even Mrs. Claus will arrive at the Gazebo to welcome Christmas to Florence. Children of all ages will enjoy their picture with Santa, candy canes, hot chocolate and everything that brings the Christmas spirit to their hearts.
Gingerbread House Competition
Make sure you stay for the
Gingerbread House Competition. Welcome participants can join and must have their entries in place by 1pm that day to be judged. Get out your cookie cutters and icing and come up with the best gingerbread house and win the title of best Gingerbread house in town! Sponsored by the
Love Joy Cafe and Tea Room. Entries are required to be in by 1pm at the ICM Restaurant (International C Food Market) and will be on display for all to see in the coming weeks. Judging starts at 3pm and all entries will be judged. There are three categories: Elementary age (up to about 11 years old), Youth (11 - 17), and the Adult category. Participants are welcome to enter their own creations made from scratch or even pre-made houses purchased at either Safeway or Fred Meyer. So don't worry about your baking skills, just buy a pre-made kit and add your own flair! This is the first annual Gingerbread contest so let's make it a good one!
