Getting Out of the Elements at Elements' Tapas Bar & Grill in Downtown Medford

Karen Cooper-Mtg Banker|Broker Ashland|Medford: Mortgage Company in Ashland, OR

A springtime afternoon in downtown Medford found me and my husband at Elements Tapas Bar & Lounge, hungry but indecisive on what we wanted to have for dinner. We've been to Elements several times since our first visit to this fabulous place in early 2007, when we were meeting friends Downtown or going to a performance at the Ginger Rogers Craterian Theater. Arriving here just after they opened on Saturday, we really had a chance to savor and enjoy not only the incredible selections Elements has, but the wonderful ambiance they have to offer, too. Gazing up at their starry night ceiling, the water fountain, or out at the unusual snow flurries we experienced that day, the time just flew by, and I'll bet they thought we had taken up permanent residence in our very comfortable booth.

Dani, gave us the utmost in attention and care. When asked for recommendations, she came through with the most incredible selections for us to try from both the food and the drink menus. Dani picked up on our individual tastes, and her recommendations for us were right on. My husband and I love to try new and different dishes, and found so many incredible choices on Elements' Tapas menu. Dani recommended a truly amazing drink for my husband to try, a martini called the Toro which contains roasted red pepper, mint, fresh lime, simple syrup and aviation gin. Oh man...I had a sip, and this drink was incredible! So different from anything we have ever tried before, and paired with their Albondigas, its unique flavor was just the ticket. We also shared their Barcelona Flatbread (we followed Dani's suggestion and put the anchovies on my husband's side, and we both really enjoyed this dish), Soft Shell Crab, and topped it off with some Rosemary Pistachio ice cream.

We haven't been to one of Elements' winemaker dinner events, but we'll be making a concerted effort to move this up on our "things to do" list.

Elements' Executive Chef, Chad Smith, is also giving cooking classes at one of our favorite Southern Oregon wineries, Roxy Ann, where we enjoyed there Spring Music series last Friday. My schedule didn't permit me to attend these classes this time around, but I'm hoping he gives more classes soon. Such a fantastic experience deserves to be shared!

Our kudos to Elements Tapas Bar & Lounge, and their incredible people who made our Saturday visit such a wonderful experience. We'll be back to see you again soon!

See you out there!

Medford - Safest City In Oregon

Jared Hokanson - Realtor Medford Oregon: Real Estate Agent in Medford, OR

At our weekly Medford Rotary Meeting today we had the opportunity to have one our fellow Rotarians, Mr. Michael Dyal, the Medford City Manager address us. Mike told us that Medford was recently voted the safest city of its size in Oregon and then when on and talked about our excellent police chief and police force and how the average response time for emergency calls has decreased dramatically in recent years.

At the end of speaking Mike opened it up to questions from the audience. I was the first to raise my hand and ask as City Manager what the greatest concern is currently for the City of Medford. Basically he boiled it down to how to fund all of the things that the city would like to do to continue to improve the quality of life for all of the citizens of Medford as we continue to be the business hub for all of Southern Oregon.

Table Rock Fellowship of Medford Oregon Steps Up to Help Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley Build Their Next Home

Karen Cooper-Mtg Banker|Broker Ashland|Medford: Mortgage Company in Ashland, OR

Table Rock Fellowship is a nondenominational Christian fellowship church that has grown to become one of the Rogue Valley's mega churches. In spite of roughly 3,000 weekly attendees at this church, it has remained a down-to-earth, friendly church offering many programs and link groups to its members looking to find the right church home. The pastoral team, staff and volunteers who pull together the many different services and programs this church offers are an outstanding resource and one of the reasons for this church's phenomenal growth. This is a "come as you are" place, with a fantastic worship band and children's program. This church ROCKS! Due to the phenomenal growth, services are being extended effective March 15th-16th and will be held Saturdays at 6PM, and Sundays at 8:15a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., with Children's ministry available at all services.

As is often the case with joint venture projects, especially Christian ones, a simple question, a reach out, and the putting together of like minds leads to a successful venture. Several weeks ago, a volunteer from Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley asked Pastor Tom Sabens if there was a chance Table Rock Fellowship might see their way to sponsoring the next home Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley is building in Central Point, Oregon. Pastor Tom relayed the request to Table Rock Fellowship's congregation and in no time at all, offers were flowing in for contributions of work and materials to assist with this build.

Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity Medford Oregon

Misconceptions abound about how the Habitat for Humanity Program works. This program is a hand UP, not a hand out. The philosophy of HfH is "teaching the man to fish". Each family works at least 500 hours to meet their sweat equity requirements in the local affiliate. They make a small contribution to set up their escrow account to pay their taxes and insurance - $500 for each partner family with our local affiliate. Then, they have a mortgage just like most homeowners, albeit at zero interest. In order to make the payments affordable for these families earning between 30-60% of the HUD median income for our county, there will be two mortgages. The first is the one they make their monthly payments on, and will have the principal amount that bears the bulk of the expense associated with the home's construction. The second is silent, has no interest or payments, and is gradually forgiven. This may be where the "handout" perception comes from, but if the homeowner sells the home during the first 9 years, they will have to pay all or part of this principal balance, too. These are general guidelines for our local Jackson County, Oregon Affiliate, and may vary slightly between one affiliate and the next, being adjusted to meet the needs and requirements of individual communities. The local Affiliate maintains first right of refusal to buy back the home in event the homeowner sells. Homeowners attend budgeting and credit counseling classes to prepare them for homeownership, and have Family Partners that continue to interact with them long after the home is complete.

For Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley's latest home at 242 Aurora Lane in Central Point Oregon, they are holding an Orientation Meeting at Table Rock Fellowship on Wednesday March 12th at 7PM in the Worship Center. A Wall Raising Celebration to kick off the project will be on the site of the home Saturday March 15th at 1PM, with a BBQ and "Bring a Dish" starting at noon.

Rogue Valley Manor’s Contribution to Southern Oregon

Karen Cooper-Mtg Banker|Broker Ashland|Medford: Mortgage Company in Ashland, OR

From most places in the Rogue Valley in Oregon, you will see a very recognizable property on Barneburg Hill on the East side of the Interstate 5 Freeway. These two tall buildings are part of the Rogue Valley Manor property, a property that has grown to 668 acres which include two golf courses. Rogue Valley Manor is Southern Oregon's only accredited continuing care retirement community.

Rogue Valley Manor, Medford, Oregon

The parent company of Rogue Valley Manor is Pacific Retirement Services, Inc., who also has 23 other community housing facilities to help meet seniors' ever growing affordable housing needs, is expanding and building additional facilities to help meet an ever growing demand. Seniors choosing to become residents at Rogue Valley Manor will choose between 4 levels of continuing care services and many different residence options. Manor residents pay an entrance fee between $50,000-$280,000 plus a monthly fee for the services they have. When a Rogue Valley Manor resident outlives their financial resources, they will continue to live at the Manor, and are not given the boot when their monies run out, with their expenses covered through the Manor's Foundation.

Quail Point Golf Course, Medford, Oregon

Two notable programs are offered through Rogue Valley Manor Community Services, a non-profit organization that sponsors two community outreach programs. The RSVP - Retired and Senior Volunteer Program - 1,092 senior volunteers who provide volunteer services to 98 Jackson County community programs. The Foster Grandparent Program of Southern Oregon has 125 senior volunteers providing one-on-one assistance to special needs and at-risk children throughout Southern Oregon.

Manor residents are strong supporters of several Rogue Valley non-profit organizations, one of which I know personally is the Rogue Valley Youth Choruses, whose participants come to the Manor twice a year to perform. Another Rogue Valley non-profit organization where I've worked side-by-side with RSVP volunteers is Habitat for Humanity/Rogue Valley.

Together, we CAN make a difference!
