Last Thursday Square One Coffee in Lancaster City, PA was home to the first breakfast Tweetup of the new year as a group of the Twitter faithful descended on the corner of Chestnut & Duke to enjoy hot drinks on a cold morning - 7am, to be exact.

Everyone was in high spirits despite the winter weather and looking forward to the renewal of events after the holiday season hiatus. Athough my co-leader Brenda "@Crazywidow" Boitsen was unable to attend due to illness (isn't THAT going around this year too...) she's already lined up Grand Central Bagel in Centerville for the next event, slated for 1/28. I've booked the Brick House in Manheim for the 2/11 get-together. A new year, new venues!
Here's a list of the attendee's Twitter names:

Happy Monday Everyone! This week's Fit Bit from Mickey Glick
comes with a great offer!
(The following is text from Mickey)
*************************************************************************************

12 Days Gym Use for a $20 Donation to ALS
I just found out about a program that helps people become more fit while also helping find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease).
ALS destroys the nerve cells controlling muscles, ultimately causing complete paralysis while leaving mental function intact. Survival is typically two to five years after diagnosis, and no cure exists.
It's a horrible disease and my cousin Kathy died from it so being able to contribute to the health of my community while contributing to finding a cure means a lot to me.
Here's how the 12 Days of Fitness works. During December, participating health clubs open their doors to members of the community and invite them to experience 12 consecutive days of fitness at their local fitness center with a donation of $20 to ALS.
It's a great way to get more people, more active, more often and also help raise money for a great cause.
Since Body & Soul is a all-women's facility, I can't offer gym memberships to the guys but...
Since my bootcamp training is co-ed, I've decided to allow any non-member (male or female) who contributes $20 to attend one week (3 days) of bootcamp, even though that program is separate from Body & Soul membership. The regular cost of 4 weeks of bootcamp (12 sessions) is $188 so the week of bootcamp alone is a $47 value.
Bootcamp meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 6:30 PM. Body & Soul is open 7 days a week.
Physical activity this time of year is a must. Exercise helps with stress management and weight control. I hope you will join me for 12 days of fitness- you'll benefit yourself and be contributing to a worthy cause.
If you have any questions about the 12 Days of Fitness program, please feel free to call me (Mickey Glick) at (717) 509-7777.

Happy Friday Readers, it's time once again for some helpful tips from Matt Steger
at WIN Home Inspection! This week Matt discusses Level 2 Chimney Inspections as part of a fireplace and chimney maintenance plan. Don't have a chimney maintenance plan? You should!
Don't forget to call Matt Steger with WIN Home Inspection
at 717-361-9467 for all of your home inspection needs!
Chimney maintenance is critical, whether the chimney is used with a fireplace or wood stove or simply exhausts the home's fossil fuel heating system or water heater. While often overlooked by home owners and new buyers alike, a thorough inspection by a certified chimney professional (such as one certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America) is strongly recommended. For real estate transactions, I strongly recommend a thorough level 2 inspection of all chimneys. Since the inside of the chimney is mostly inaccessible to a home inspector, even if viewed from the firebox and top exterior, the level 2 inspection can determine the overall condition of the chimney and report any issues. Internal chimney repairs can be quite expensive, so finding out now the chimney's condition is wise. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends level 2 inspections when changing the fireplace's fuel type, relining the flue, a building or chimney fire occurs, an operational malfunction or earthquake occurs, or when a real estate transaction happens.
Keep in mind that, whether a chimney is venting a fireplace, wood stove, water heater, furnace, or boiler, regular chimney inspections and maintenance is critical for safe operation of the system.
The level 2 inspection entails the certified chimney professional performing a thorough inspection of the exterior and
interior chimney components as well as within the firebox. The level 2 inspection should also include the use of still or video photography along the chimney's full interior length. The chimney professional is looking for damaged masonry and cracks in the flue liner, as well as other issues that may be detrimental to safe use of the system. The flue system is also typically cleaned, prior to the visual inspection, to provide better visual access. If damaged masonry or other components are found, they should be repaired. The level 2 inspection should also include inspection of crawl spaces, basements, or attic areas adjacent to the fireplace or chimney to ensure proper clearance from combustibles.
Next week, we'll explore what a home inspector does regarding fireplaces and chimneys as part of their home inspection.

Good Afternoon Readers! It's Monday, time for another Monday Fit Bit from Mickey Glick! The one thing I hear all the time from Mickey is that fitness isn't about making huge radical changes, but about all the little things that add up to an overall healthier life. Stand up, walk, laugh. Yup, it is that simple, read on to find out more!
Don't forget, if you would like more information or want Mickey Glick (who, by the way, is a very experienced and certified personal trainer!) to set up a fitness plan for you, call her at Body and Soul Fitness Studio at 717-509-7777!

STAND UP AND LIVE LONGER - If you sit most of the day, you need to take a break...from sitting. According to a 12-year study, people who sat most of the day had higher mortality rates. Whether you're a desk jockey, spend hours riding in a car or watch a lot of TV, you need to frequently get up and move. Walk around, stretch, whatever- just move and do it often. Study participants who sat for more than a quarter of their day had a higher mortality rate than those who sat for less, even if they also exercised 30 minutes a day.
LAUGH YOURSELF THIN - O.K., that's a gross exaggeration but if you're debating which movie to see and you're trying to lose weight, go with the comedy. According to research, you'll probably snack less. In a study, when participants watched a tearjerker they ate almost 30% more buttered popcorn than when they viewed an upbeat film.
REDUCING YOUR BREAST CANCER RISK - Australian and Canadian researchers recently reviewed 62 exercise studies and found that women who are physically active decreased their risk of breast cancer by 25-30%. In 85% of the studies, the more exercise the women performed, the greater their risk reduction. This held true even for recreational activities like walking. Better yet, the scientists found that you can begin exercising at any age and still reduce your risk of breast cancer.
