On November 1st, Lehigh Valley's 2nd dog park opened in Nazareth Boro Park, Northampton County's largest park. It is a grassy, tree-lined, fenced in area on top of the hillside where dogs can be taken off their leashes to run and play.
The idea began about 1 year ago. An area resident was willing to donate the labor from his landscaping company if the borough bought the materials and a permit was issued to allow the area of the park for dogs.
There is one other dog park in the Lehigh Valley and it is located in Bethlehem in Illick's Mill Park. Two other dog parks are proposed in the Allentown and Emmaus areas. These 2 are currently placed on hold.
There are 2 fenced in areas for the dogs. One is for small dogs and the other for large dogs. Rules will be posted and they will pretty much follow the rules that the Bethlehem dog park has. It is asked to use "common sense". If your dog does not get along with other dogs or behave, to please not bring it to the park.
It is requested that everyone that brings a dog BYOW (bring your own water). Installing a water line would have increased the cost of erecting the park which could have placed the project on hold indefinitely.
The main portion of the park does not allow dogs. Therefore, the entrance to the dog park is accessed from Black Rock Rd., which is a back road to the park.
Looks like Nazareth is going dog friendly!

Checked my email today and found an invitation to a party from a neighbor! YEAH! I love parties! I read on further and discovered it is a 'Gold Rush' party. I can bring my old, broken, mismatched, or no longer wanted jewelry and get paid for it...hmmm....

I have been to many home parties where the guests mingle, drink wine, munch on appetizers and after a short presentation by a party consultant, browse through the catalogs and place orders, but...
Unlike Tupperware or Pampered Chef, this is a home party where I can leave my checkbook at home-- I don't have to buy anything! Interesting...I never heard of this!
Ironically, next I visit the website for our local newspaper and the top story is the latest craze for girl's night out -- Gold Rush parties! This is bigger than I thought! Apparently, women all over are cashing in their bling! View story at: http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-5gold.6683740dec07,0,6140674.story
One by one, you sit down with the jeweler, who weighs what you bring and cuts you a check on the spot. The hostess gets a cut of the evening's proceeds, usually 10 - 15%.
Is this a sign of the times or what??
Interesting concept, great way to get rid of unwanted or outdated gold...but I am just not ready to start selling off my jewelry!
