Living in Crossville, Tennessee has never been this magnificent! With an abundance of superb choices in recreational activities, from playing a great game golf to hiking its majestic terrains, or simply enjoying nature at its best, Crossville offers almost everything and anything one can imagine about having a grand life.

One of the places where you can relish Crossville’s impeccable scenery is the Cumberland Mountain State Park, the largest timbered plateau in America. This 1,720-acre park is located on the Cumberland Plateau, a segment of the great upland, which extends from western New York to central Alabama.

The park is set amidst an environmental microcosm of the beautiful Cumberland Plateau and provides numerous recreational activities, including an 18-hole Bear Trace golf course. Recreational facilities include an olympic-sized swimming pool, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, four tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and shuffleboard, basketball, badminton, and volleyball courts, all for your enjoyment. Discover some of the reasons why Crossville is the Golf Capital of Tennessee at Bear Trace golf course with its 6,900-yard (6,300 m), par 72 course open year-round.

It has a combined total of 147 tent and RV campsites with hookups provided. They offer picnic tables, grills and a bathhouse facility. Picnic tables equipped with grills are spread throughout the park at the Recreation Lodge parking lot area, playground area, tennis court area and the boat dock area. The park also has four picnic pavilions that can be reserved for larger groups. The park also offers several miles of moderate trails around the immaculate lake, creek and in the woods. Overnight camping is allowed on one of the trails. These trails are open year-round. Experience picnicking and camping with your family while surrounded by the beauty of pure nature.

Should you consider having a dip in a pool, the park’s olympic-sized pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It has a diving well with 1-3 meter board and 1-1 meter board. Chairs, tables with umbrellas and a bathhouse are all provided, with picnic tables outside the pool area and a snack bar. There is also a lifeguard on duty.

If you are into leisure fishing, the park offers pleasurable fishing on Byrd Lake and visitors can expect catches of catfish, bass, bluegill and bream. Fishing from the bank is allowed except for a few posted areas. Byrd Lake provides amazing fishing and paddle boating opportunities you have yet to discover.

In Cumberland Mountain Park you have the luxury of choosing exhilarating activities between camping, exploring its beautiful trails, swimming, fishing, hunting or simply picnicking with your family. This is just one of the many reasons why Crossville is one of the best places to retire!

I recently began a series of blogs about The Magic That is East Tennessee and focused on Blount County . - home to many truly amazing cities and town including Alcoa, Friendsville, Louisville, Maryville (the largest), Rockford, Townsend and Walland.

Although I could truly go on forever about what makes this area special, I thought I would list just TEN of my favorite reasons.
