Elizabethton Tennessee, Laurel Falls- This is my favorite hiking spot in this area. It is right off Highway 321. There is a lower trail head which is 2.5 miles to the falls and an upper trail head that is 1.5 miles to the falls. There is also several other trails throughout the area. A 14 mile round trip and 17 mile round trip. It is a hike with hills, creeks, some rock climbing on the lower trail, not bad though. Great foot holds and not at all dangerous. This picture shows one of the areas where you have to climb a little around the corner. Great place!

This is from yesterday. Very cold outside, but clear enough to see forever.... I have a few really great pictures from this setting. Just need to complete some editing. Great hiking up here. This is near the Rhododendron forest. There is also camping, both tent and cabin, in the area. Just an amazing area.

Retirement, lower cost of living, affordable housing, all great reasons to visit Carter County.

Elizabethton
The town of Elizabethton is as unique as it's name and is a mixture of old and new. The Cruise-In every Saturday night from April through October takes you back to a time when muscle cars and rock-n-roll were all the rage. Elizabethton is surrounded by views of the mountains and has some of the best fishing spots in the nation. The people are so friendly it makes you think you have gone back in time. There is no shortage of churches, as Elizabethton has over 50 and you're bound to find the right one for you. For a small town, it has the necessary shopping conveniences and is only a short 15 minute drive to Johnson City. The Tri-Cities airport is convenient so you don't have to fly out of Nashville. There are several good restaurants and coffee lovers will enjoy the Coffee Company with gourmet food, delicious desserts and great tasting coffee. Once you come to visit, you will want to become a permanent resident.
