An Overview of the History of Crosby, Texas
Humphrey Jackson, one of the original 300 colonists to settle Texas, nick named the site now currently north of US Route 90 "Lick Skillet." The name "Lick Skillet" came from the oxen team drivers the would drink the spring water and lick their skillets clean.
After settling in the area outside Austin's colony along the San Jacinto River, in 1824 the Baron de Bastrop granted Humphrey Jackson to a league and labor of land, which is now part of Harris County. Humphrey Jackson petioned the Mexican government to form the San Jacinto District under the control of Austin's colony. He served both as the alcaldeqv of the district and militia capitan. Humphrey Jackson was buried in Crosby, Texas and Jackson's Bayou is more than likely named after him.
The Southern Pacific Railroad that passes through current day Crosby, Texas is behind the origins of the current town's name. The town was named after engineer G. J. Crosby. It was in 1861 when Galveston Bay Railroad and Lumber Company installed railroad tracks through this site. Shortly after the installation of the track was the first general store owned and operated by Charlie Karcher. Crosby soon found it's economic niche as a depot for lumber and agricultural products. The post office was named after Charlie Karcher in 1877. The town faced many hardships including the Great Depression which reduced the already small population by 50%. This area continues to grow located only miles from the Houston area and with the accessibility provided by HWY 90 and Beltway 8.
Other points of interest when considering the history and growth taking place in Crosby, Texas: historical Barrett Station, Harris County Precint 4, Jerry Eversole, Crosby Community Center, Harris County Sheriff, Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, Crosby Independent School District, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Crosby Branch of Harris County Public Library, Crosby/Huffman Chamber of Commerce, Crosby Fair and Rodeo, local newspapers (Star Courier and The Lake Houston Sentinel), Crosby Park, Barret Station/Riley Chambers Community Center, and the Crosby Sports Complex.

When searching for a home it can be difficult to find exactly what you want. Offering a unique one-of-a-kind home that exemplifies your style and preference is the goal of Reich Construction. Exceptional summarizes the experience you will experience throughout the process from lot to completion. Building your dream home that is both functional and architecturally stunning is the primary goal of Reich Construction. Setting a higher standard, building with forward thinking, and making dreams come true is our goal.
Will Reich, a generational continuum in the building industry, brings a new meaning to the word custom. With a passion in French and Spanish architectural design with a Texas flair, Will Reich brings a unique offering into markets that have been limited to track and semi-custom building. With attentiveness to detail and assurance in quality, his desire is to build homes that are thought provoking and stunning. Will is involved in every step of the building process to ensure that the final product will exceed your expectations.

The difference when choosing Reich Construction starts from building a solid foundation. The rebar reinforced monolithic slab is comprised of 3/8" rebar on 12" centers.
The rebar is tied together forming a grid over the entire foundation. Additionally 6 pieces of 5/8" rebar are strategically placed in all of the beams and interwoven where the beams intersect. Think of your foundation as you would think of the pylons and columns that hold up our Houston area interstates. It's important that those pylons and columns maintain their structural integrity. The same should be considered when considering your home.
Other differences that can be seen with Reich Construction is that the frame is bolted to the slab as opposed to fastened by flimsy metal tabs. All studs, rafters and joists are spaced no more than 16" apart. Rafters are generally 2x6's and 2x8's.
Attention to detail and quality throughout the process is evident when choosing Reich Construction to build your custom home. See the beautiful tile entry on right with granite inserts, curved archways, paneled doors, thick crowning molding and more.
Are you currently happy with the home you are living in, but you would like to do some updates? Reich Construction also offers additional services including granite installations, roofing, home additions, porches, kitchen remodels and bath remodels. Give the home you live in the face lift that exemplifies your style and preference.
To find out more about the services offered by Reich Construction or how to start designing and building your custom home, contact Will Reich at 281-883-9839. Mention to Will Reich that you found him on ActiveRain.

JR Towles...another great example of a fine person who's hometown is Crosby, TX.

While being the Houston Astros catcher may have made him a household name that is only a tip of the iceberg of what a wonderful young man he truly is! JR's committment to God is obvious in everything he does. He is not shy when it comes to talking about his faith! Before every game he has a talk with God and ask him for his protection and his help in allowing JR to do the best that he can.
I will not talk about his great successes in baseball...after all that is all over the internet and the news. I am overly impressed in JR'z dedication to God and his community and love what he is doing to inspire our youth.
Recently on April 10, 2008 there was a street dedication in Crosby, TX honoring JR. Jerry Eversole, Precinct 4 County Commissioner, was on hadn to help celebrate the honor. JR did not let fans down as he signed balls, shirts and whatever else they brought with them.
Great success comes to great people and JR is no exception!

For all of the fellow Texans reading this, I am pretty confident in saying that we will all agree how much we love Texas...but what exactly is it that we love? Is it the food? The people? The land? What is it that you love about Texas?
Doug Supernaw's "Red and The Rio Grand" names a lot of reasons why we love Texas:
One lone star waving in the wind
A longhorn standing proud behind a rusty barbed wire fence
Cowboy hats and hearts that never bend
I was born and raised a Texan and will be 'til the end
As I travel down that blue bonnet highway
I'm thankful I was born a lucky man
And I know that I will live and die my own way
Somewhere between the Red and Rio Grande
Two old boots, dusty, worn, and stained
By the oilfields and the ranches and the blood that fell like rain
Heroes hearts that fought to change our name
From Tejas to Texas where the Lone Star proudly waves
As I travel down that blue bonnet highway
I'm thankful I was born a lucky man
And I know that I will live and die my own way
Somewhere between the Red and Rio Grande
What are your top ten reasons for loving Texas? Here are some of mine...I am sure I will think of many more once I post this but I am interested in hearing what your love affair with Texas stems from:
•1. The people - this is no doubt number one. We must have the friendliest people in the entire world. The spirit of our state is evident in everything that we do. I do believe the statement, ‘...give you the shirt right off of his back" must have came from Texas". I can't forget that Texas people are pretty darn smart too...after all Dr. Pepper was invented here. Quality - that's what Texas folks are!
•2. The road trips - I can't think of another place on earth that would have as many great road trips as Texas. Think of all the scenic terrain you would see traveling across Texas and you must stop and "smell" the bluebonnets!
•3. Sweet Tea and a nice front porch - it's pure Texas ya'll and I love it!
•4. Tex-Mex food - No New York City food here...this is what our tummies yearn for!
•5. Texas music - what do you say, "we gather all these great Texans, head on a road trip to Lukenbach, grab some ice tea and Mexican food while listening to good Texas Country music...that is what I am talking about!
•6. Good economy and property values when compared to others in the country.
•7. Good Manners still exist in Texas. There is nothing like the sound of a child saying, "yes, sir and no ma'am" unless of course it is that same child saying, "please and thank you".
•8. The team spirit we have while cheering for our favorite school's team...no matter what Texas team it is...it's still Texas!
•9. Everything is big in Texas - we live on our own grand scale and it is grand enough for me!
•10. Winding rivers, lazy lakes and camping out under the stars....with my family.
This post was the perfect way to start my day and think about the things I am thankful for...I can't wait to hear your thoughts...

These girls are simply great marvelous! No, they haven't won championships nor have they been recognized in the local papers but they should have been! These girls have shown us parents that it's not only about how many goals they score or how many games they win. These girls have shown us what true friendship and teamwork really means!! They stick together through every game, every season and walk away laughing and enjoying their time together. When the score of the game is brought up, it is the parents who did it. The parents have sat on the sidelines watching our girls literally stop on the field to make sure their teammate is ok after a tumble they had, we have seen them play game after game and very rarely be called on a foul. We have watched them become winners as outstanding young women regardless of what the scoreboard says. They make us proud to in their presence!!! Thank you Fusion...for showing us what true teamwork and sportmanship is truly all about!!
