Want to go shopping for something unique?
Have you looked in Fredericksburg?
The end to end all shopping places is Fredericksburg. Even your husband won't mind following you around all over town when you come to Fredericksburg. Well, maybe he will. Leave him on one of the many out door benches while you browse to your heart's desire. He can have a homemade brew or some great Texas wine while waiting on you. Don't forget the outdoor entertainment. Yes, music fills the streets in Fredericksburg.
There is something for everyone here. The great German cuisine will have your mouth watering after just a few blocks of shopping. Their are diners, fine restaurants, bakeries, candy stores and ice cream. Are you hungry yet?
The unusual gift items and hard to find things are on every block. The sidewalks are crowded on the weekends but it makes it more fun. I took these pictures during the week before the holidays but come on and visit Fredericksburg. You will have so much fun, you may start to think how wonderful to live in a place like this.
Fredericksburg is a beautiful preserved German community with great architecture in the homes and the buildings. It is a showplace and you are guaranteed a good time.

When in Fredericksburg, take time to visit some of the beautiful old churches within the city. There are several wonderful examples of historical architecture. The Holy Ghost Lutheran Church is one example and is just south of Main street (Hwy 290) in the business district.
The church was founded in the mid 1800's and is an active congregation to this day. Take time to read the historical marker and imagine things have not really changed that much since then, at least not in Fredericksburg.
The early German settlers brought their faith with them and the old churches are a continuing testimony to that.
Fredericksburg is a beautiful city with wide streets made for modern cars but built so long ago. The early German homes, buildings and Sunday houses are still a part of a thriving community that spans three centuries.
Fredericksburg offers more than just an incredible place to shop. It is a wonderful community to live in. It offers big city convenience, country homes with good soil for farming and ranching, a great community to rear children and great place to worship.

Fredericksburg is full of German restaurants with great German cuisine like my favorite JaegerSchnitzel at the quaintest restaurant on Main Street but that's another blog. Today I want to tell you about the best Catfish place north of the Pedernales River.
Catfish Haven was started about ten years ago by Shane and Ruby Swenson. They moved to the current location about 5 years ago and their business has grown steadily over the years.
Shane is pictured here. He does catering for any size group, almost any kind of entrees.
Recently Shane and Ruby SOLD the restaurant to Clay and Nora Meadows. The Meadows are just now getting settled in the area. They are from Cincinnati and we want to give them a friendly "TEXAS WELCOME".
If you live in the area or are just visiting, try the catfish. You won't be disappointed.
The catfish has a cornmeal batter and is cooked just right. The fries have a crispy cheesy seasoning and the pinto beans have been slow cooked for hours.
Anyone like fried okra? This is delicious! There are other good sides as well but one of my favorite ways to judge a restaurant is by the salad bar. This one is fresh and cold. Lots of different kinds of veggies to choose from. Take your pick.
The decor is eclectic with a whole wall of license plates from all over the country. There is a mural on one wall of a river and a fisherman catching those wonderful catfish.
If you are hungry when visiting Fredericksburg, check out Catfish Haven. It is on Hwy 290 West on the right side of the road. It's almost to the edge of town so keep driving and watch for the sign. You'll be glad you did. See you there!
