I have already told my grown kids that once they have kids of their own that one of them is going to do some Mutton Bustin at the rodeo. All three have rolled their eyes at me when I declared my intentions...especially since not a one of them is dating...but, I digress.
I am a cowgirl at heart...a wannabe...so going to the rodeo is my outlet and a chance for me to at least be a spectator of all my childhood dreams. Last year I saw Mutton Bustin for the first time...and, honestly, I fell in love with the whole concept. For those of you who have no idea what I am referring to...it's an event at the rodeo where kids, ages 4-7, get on the back of a sheep and try to hold on for at least six seconds in a rodeo arena.
Never in my life have I seen kids more tenatious and gutsy. You will laugh your head off and in the next minute be crying because of how proud these kids are when they finish the ride. I watched a red-headed- 4-year-old take off on a sheep who was literally hanging on the side of the sheep for most of her ride. She actually lasted longer than the required six seconds. Her ride finally ended when the sheep bucked her off. She went rolling across the dirt floor and then quickly stood up. She had tears in her eyes when she stood...but immediately broke out with a huge smile and waved at the crowd.
I must have been hormonal...because I teared up and vowed that day that I would have a grandchild in that contest. Call me crazy or whacked...but that's my kind of fun and will hopefully be my grandchildren's kind of fun too.

Now...where to find a sheep....
