Manassas, VA

You may have missed the Grand Opening of Swirlies in Manassas earlier in the summer. It's located on Pennsylvania Avenue, just off of Route 28 in the Airport Commerce Center. And don't rely on seeing it from the main road. Swirlies is behind the Buger King.

If you live in the Manassas or Bristow area, try to make a trip to Swirlies before the end of summer. You won't be disappointed. They are many ice cream choices to enjoy. And you can enjoy the airplanes landing and departing overhead at Manassas airport. The kids will love it!

The 59th Annual Prince William County Fair started yesterday, August 8th. As usual, it's being held at the Fair Grounds...located at 10624 Dumfries Road in Manassas. Some attactions this weekend are two shows, 5pm, both Saturday and Sunday by the Bull Run Cloggers.

Sunday, August 10th, there is a full day of activities...two of which are of particular interest to yours truly. AT 1pm there will be a Pet Show featuring Cats and Small Animals. At 3pm there is the Bake Sale and Judging of the Bake Off. If you stay throughout Sunday evening, you can catch the Neavils Creek Band at 6pm and the rodeo at 7:30pm

Monday evening, August 11th, there will be a MMA Cage Fighting at 7pm. While earlier in the day there is a kinder, gentler contest...the Baby Contest for boys ages 19-36 months.

The event that catches my eye for Tuesday is the Greatest Grandparents Essay Contest at 7pm.

Wednesday the 13th is Dollar Day! 7pm starts the Demolition Derby with an 8m Flyball Demonstration

Thursday the 14th, the Baby Contest goes to the girls, agest 19-36 months at 3pm. And another Demolition Derby at 7pm.

Friday, the 15th, features another Demolition Derby at 70m and KYDA Pro Wrestling at 8pm.

Saturday, the 16th, the Dogs get their chance in the 1pm Pet Show. Be sure to stick around the for Freestyle Motocross Jump-Off at 7pm.

The Fair wraps up on Sunday, the 17th, with a Home Arts exhibit from 11:30am-3pm.

Finally, tomorrow is the big day when the Prince William County Fair gets under way.

There will be competitions to judge Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle, Swine, Goats, Sheep, Rabbits and Poultry.

Also, judging will be done for Art, Photography, Ceramics, Flowers, Canning, Baked Goods, Handicrafts, China Painting and Textiles

All those exhibits provide almost limitless opportunities to enjoy the fair. We all know (at least those of us who are fairgoers) a county fair would not be complete without other events - Food at the County Fair and The Midway. Be assured there are going to be rides for all age groups.

It makes no difference which language you use the food will be good at both events. There are several things to take into consideration - the cost to travel to Beijing, the unhealthy air and they won't have food that in any way resembles the food at a county fair. So, schedule a visit to the Prince William County Fair in Manassas August 8 - 16 2008. Go early in the fair so you will have time to return another day for more food and more events.
