In an effort to discover Fredericksburg, our new town, and to take advantage of one of the first warm (over 50 degrees) days since our move, my husband and I decided to 'take a walk in the woods'. This walk would surely be less taxing than Bill Bryson's for several reasons
1. We were NOT attacking the Appalachian Trial from either end or even from the middle
2. We would have 2 beagle dogs with us who would surely be looking for their beds after an hour or two
3. We would be leaving an elderly beagle boy home to guard the house in our absence and he would need food and the outdoor facilities in short order.
Regardless of our time constraints, but aware of them, we set off to Caledon Natural Area in King George VA (this between our home in Fredericksburg and the area near Dahlgren).
The walk was, in a word, monochromatic. In two words, monochromatic and flat. We will try harder next time! Actually it was quite lovely, peaceful, and provided a intertesting view of the Potomac River with ice. The area is known for its eagle population and so is off limits during breeding season. I am glad we had a chance to see it in winter and I look forward to another visit in spring.
Today, it is chores on the agenda!
PS, the girls were, in fact, pooped after the walk. Seen here in the back seat of the Ford Escape Hybrid!
PPS we did in fact pick up the trash that floated onto shore - I dont think eagles like Corona.

OK, so maybe the title is a bit ambitious. Really it won't be a great remodel, but hopefully at least a passable one. We moved into our house knowing that the Master bath would need some work. The former owner allowed the grout to become weak, loosening tiles, and causing damage to the shower.
I am trying to make the remodel as environmentally friendly as I can, within my budget... so far, so good. I have found some recycled glass tiles that I will use. The new faucets and shower-head are Watersense certified and the light fixture is Energy Star approved. The toilet is low flow and Watersense certified as well.
Now I am thinking about the vanity. My budget will not allow for replacement at this time. And in fact, the vanity is in fine condition so the most environmentally friendly think I can do is to keep using it! I planned to replace it and donate it to the Habitat for Humanity Reuse store. Now I am considering other options. Stain a different color, paint, change doors, well, you get the picture. Anything I can do to change the style so it is an updated look. SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!

THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTION YOU HAVE! Try to make them eco-friendly!

If you're looking to move to northern Virginia Fawn Lake is one of the most prestigious communities near Fredericksburg VA. This beautiful gated community situated in western Spotsylvania County has all the amenities one could ask for in a master planned community.
The focal point of the development is the 288 acre deep water lake with over seven miles of wooded shoreline. You can buy a waterfront lot and build, or choose from one of the many resale waterfront homes that are on the market at any given time. Your time spent on the lake will create wonderful memories that you'll cherish for a lifetime.
If water sports or fishing is not your cup of tea, then maybe the 18-hole Arnold Palmer designed golf course is. I have personally played this course many times and can attest to the enjoyment you'll have whether you're a scratch golfer or 30 handicap.
The community also offers a private country club with lakeside dining and other social events. The community clubhouse offers a swimming pool with a fantastic view of the lake, jacuzzi, and exercise and meeting facilities. There is also a beach, volleyball court, tennis courts and boat dock.
Fawn Lake is located only 15 miles from the charming, historic town of Fredericksburg, VA. You can be in the nations capital in 1.5 hours. It was recently named One of America's 100 Best Master Planned Communities by Where to Retire magazine.
If you're interested in making Fawn Lake your home give me a call. I'll be happy to give you a private tour any time.
