2009 Clark County Parade Of Homes - What Goes Into A LEED Platinum Home? (More BOOTLEG photos!)

The boys at Tamarack Homes are up to it again. For the 2009 Clark County Parade of homes, being held in Camellia, Ryan Zygar and his Tamarack team are building a LEED Platinum home to put on display. Ryan, in conjunction with the Clark County BIA held an impromptu press conference the other day and I am bringing it to you first.

Ryan gave us an exterior only tour of the property. The BIA has set strict standards for showing the inside of the parade homes and Ryan isn't breaking those rules! (yet.) The tour focused on some of the special features that are going into this masterpiece that will allow it to qualify for a LEED Platinum certification. On this day, we were treated to the details surrounding the new high tech building wrap, the cedar siding system, and the high tech windows. As always, I smuggled my spy camera in to the conference and managed to sneak a few pics!

Ryan demonstrated how Vapro Shield's new Wrap Shield product is an integral part of the siding system. Vapro Shield reps were also on site to talk to us about the intimate details of their product.

Cedar Valley produced the wonderful cedar shingle siding system for this incredible home. The shingles are available in large strips for easy, fast, and cheap installation, and they are pre-painted in the factory. This painting process allows for faster project completion and minimizes harmful pollution. Not green enough for you? The cedar shingles are made from parts of the tree that usually are considered waste and get shipped to the landfills. Great job guys!

The windows are high efficiency windows built by Sierra Pacific Windows. Sierra Pacific builds these gorgeous windows with using the highest quality green processes. The exterior of the windows is made from recyclable aluminum and the interiors are produced using wood from their own sustainable managed forests!

The Clark County Parade Of Homes is being held from August 14 through August 30th at Camellia. Camellia is a gorgeous new subdivision located just west of the intersection of SR503 and179th Street.

The 2009 Clark County Parade of Homes is currently under construction and we have news that there will be another LEED Certified home in the parade this year. Ryan Zygar of Tamarack Homes built last year's parade home, "The Cottage." Rumors have it that Ryan, the newly appointed chairman of the Clark County BIA Green Building Council, is stepping up to this year's challenge by building a custom home that will be Certified LEED Platinum.

I don't have any pictures yet but reports say that the team at Tamarack have the home fully framed and are furiously working towards meeting the August 14, 2009 deadline.
