Health Care and Toys - Country Doctor Community Clinic
Health Care and Toys - Country Doctor Community Clinic
In a world of impersonal health care, it is a relief to know that there are clinics that are truly committed to serving the public. Country Doctor Community Clinic is a local non-profit organization that maintains two clinic sites, Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center and Country Doctor Community Clinic.
Country Doctor Community Clinic was founded in 1971 by a group of community activists that recognized the need for medical care services within their neighborhood. Country Doctor originally began as an all-volunteer free clinic, offering medical care to patients only in the evening. As the community’s reliance on Country Doctor Community Clinic grew, the organization was able to grow and evolve into a respected primary care provider, offering a full range of health care services.
The mission of Country Doctor Community Clinic is to improve the health of the community by providing high quality, caring, culturally appropriate primary health care that addresses the needs of people regardless of their ability to pay. Country Doctor Community Clinic is committed to providing the most comprehensive care, combining outpatient and in-patient family practice primary care with community health care and preventive health education. Not only does Country Doctor Community Clinic tend to the immediate needs of the community, but is also dedicated to informing the community about ways to prevent sickness.
During the holiday season, Country Doctor Community Clinic reaches out to the community and hosts a special Christmas party for children and their families. However, 4 years ago, the Country Doctor Community Clinic basement flooded and the toys and food were ruined.
As news spread, members of the community such as Lynn Christensen of Lake Street Catering and Rick Rizzs’ Toys For Kids, wouldn’t let a flood ruin the children’s Christmas party. That year, Country Doctor Community Clinic helped bring Christmas cheer to 800 children. The event was successful and continues as an annual community tradition. With the help of a wonderful organizations and volunteers, the 2011 Christmas Party was a success, serving over 2,500 children and their families! For more information on Country Doctor Community Clinic and how you can get involved in helping making the holiday season a little more merry, please visit www.countrydoctor.org
