Oh No!
Can this beautiful door be salvaged?
Stagers Tips and Tricks,
Laura Baker, Ready? Set,...Sell!
Home Staging & ReDesign, Jefferson, South Central, WI
So, do you think Stagers do not get emotionally attached to their homes? Think again. I live in an home that is around 100 years old. It still has all the original woodwork. It has french doors with crystal knobs and all the original glass panels. At one point I had to remove one of the original french doors and store it out in the garage. Now, I am sure it is no surprise that I am a little cautious about how I store things of this type of value. Unfortunatelly, my "guy with the tool belt",... not so much! I call him Mr.Tuck & Shove, due to that is his method of storage and filing. I was out in the garage yesturday and to my horror, I did find the door. He had tucked it up onto the rafters in the top of the garage. Lots of "stuff" piled high on top of it. Just a few months ago we had a new roof put on the garage due to many leaks.
I went into the house and as sweetly as I could muster, asked my guy with the tool belt to get the door down and bring it in for me. When he brought it in and saw the tears welling in my eyes he offered to clean it up for me. So,... what was the best way to do this?
Here is the way the door looked when he brought it in;
So, what is the best way to clean up woodwork? There are several ways, but my favorite is (a trick I learned from someone who works in a company that does refinishing and referbishing for antiques);
1. Wash with warm water and spic'n'span (granular is best). This will clean and remove all gunk from the wood. Allow it to dry thouroughly (24 hours is good).
2. Rub into the wood lemon oil (my favorite), orange oil, Old English (besure to use the correct color ~ they have dark for darker stains, a medium for medium stains, a light for blonde woods and a clear). These are fabulas for making woodwork look fresh and new.
3. Allow that to soak in for a few hours (or even overnight), then clean glass window panels with your favorite glass cleaning solution and old newspapers.
This is the best time of year to oil up all your natural woodwork & Cabinets to keep it from drying out.
Do Not use these products on hardwood flooring! EVER!
And the results are as follows;
So, what do you think?

If you have decided that living in a friendly, small town, close to all the conveniences of a larger metropolitan area is where you want to live...let us introduce you to the Town of Ashippun. (pronounced Ash a pin) . The name is Indian for raccoon which is what the Indians called the river flowing thru the eastern part of town. The town has the Ashippun River and Collins Lake and was once dense forest land that settlers used to construct log cabins.
The topography was formed by the glaciers with rolling hills, some large rocks as well as kettles dotting the landscape. The census bureau indicates that the town is 35.7 square miles in size with just .1 of the area being water.
In the shadow of Waukesha County, Ashippun is in Dodge County. Downtown Milwaukee is a 45 minute ride, and Madison about an hour.
The population of Ashippun in 2000 was 2,308. The town is served by several school districts including the Oconomowoc Area Schools as well as students in the eastern part of town who attend Hartford Schools and students in the northern part To of this area attend Neosho schools. To determine which schools a child would attend, representatives may be contacted at:
Oconomowoc; 262-560-1115
Neosho: 920-625-3531
Hartford: 262-673-8950
