Sheridan Wyoming has once again received an award. This time, we've had the the honor of being recognized by Newsmax.com as one of the top 25 Uniquely American Cities and Towns. It's not surprising for those of us who live here. We already know that this is a uniquely American town. Sheridan, Wyoming is #21

Even though it's a relatively small percentage of people who know about our area, it's amazing how many wonderful "small world" connections there are to the Sheridan Area, the heart of "Where the Rivers Run North". Many people have either visited or know someone who has visited the Big Horn Mountains or a dude ranch such as Eaton's Ranch, Paradise Guest Ranch, The Rafter Y or The HF Bar Ranch. It's the experiences from here that they remember. Those experiences are rich from the connection to the people and activities in addition to the beautiful landscapes. We think it's the connection to this area that brings people back. Spring is once again turning the Sheridan area green. The continued moisture, whether in the form of snow or rain, is producing a vibrant green blanket beneath the Big Horn Mountains. Soon, leaves will re-appear on trees and the mountain snows will yield to the warmer temperatures, while the landscapes and mountain views become a sight to behold. Once you've experienced this magical time here, it's not hard to understand why those of us who live here do so.

This weekend will be a great showcase for youth soccer in Sheridan, WY at the Big Horn Events Center (BHEC). It's really a great venue and a lot of fun as there will be 112 teams playing from the 10 and under age group up through the 14 year old division. This is sure to be a high energy event, filled with the enthusiasm of kids and soccer balls. Brought to you by MARS and the Sheridan County Soccer Association, the new 2008 MARS Big Horn Soccer Cup, formerly known as the SNICKERS Big Horn Mountain Cup, is sure to be just as great as the past events. Forest Mars graciously supplies plenty of treats for participants and spectators and this year there will be a Movie Under the Stars on a great big, blow-up, mega screen (rumor has it that it might be "Kicking and Screaming"). We are very lucky to have such great philanthropy and great events in Sheridan and Big Horn, Wyoming.

Tonight, I'd like to showcase our beautiful area with a video "Landscapes and Lifestyles". In this video, you'll get a taste of what it's like to live in or near Sheridan, Wyoming. Soccer season is about to begin in the Cowboy State and the Sheridan Storm will have a number of really good teams competing. One of the really great venues for soccer, not only in Wyoming, but anywhere, is the Big Horn Events Center, which amazingly can simultaneously run 22 soccer games all at the same facility. This same facility is home to the Big Horn Polo Club, where polo is played all summer and many other activities. Take a look at Big Horn and Sheridan for a great early May trip to Wyoming, and then come back in the summer for a memorable summer vacation in one of the greatest places on earth.

The MARS® Big Horn Mountain Spring Cup is truly an amazing event.

The meadowlarks are singing and the sound of bulldozers and excavators fill the air. It is the sound of energy and wildlife at the base of the Bighorn Mountains. Many people want to keep the area unchanged. Many people want to take what is there and ship it to the surrounding area. The dirt covered trucks and the sound of equipment are music to my ears. It means that jobs are being created and we get to import less oil from Saudia Arabia. It means that we can carry guns in our trucks and have the opportunity to see large bull elk out our windows.

The sound of a meadowlark is prettier, but the sound of large trucks paves the way for America's freedom.
