The Town of Slave Lake is located on the east end of Lesser Slave Lake -the biggest lake that lies totally within the borders of the province. With a population of approxiamtely 7,000, it is full service community with hotels, restaurants, grocery and convenience stores in addition to a variety of retail stores, including Walmart and Canadian Tire.

The town has an extensive walking and bike trail system that runs through the town and north to the provincial park.
