Over the last 25 or 30 years builders have put a new face on subdivisions when compared to the homes of the 50's and 60's. Gone is the "cookie cutter" look - homes may have had a Queen Anne peak or a hip roof, but that was about the extent of variation. Port Potomac in Woodbridge is a perfect example of the new approach. The home exteriors are as varied as the people who live in them.
The first home pictured below would fit into Alexandria, VA very comfortably. Obviously, the second home is reminiscent of a Savannah, GA home sitting amidst live oak trees draped with Spanish Moss. The last home pictured looks like it was moved to Port Potomac from Floyd.

There are numerous reasons that Lake Ridge is one of the most popular subdivisions in Prince William County or Northern Virginia. One of them is its' "Commuter Convenience".
The travel time from Lake Ridge to I-95 is approximately 15 minutes. However, unless you use PRTC Buses, the "on the road" time north on I-95 to the Pentagon or Washington, D.C can fluctuate unpredictably on factors beyond the commuter's control.
The good news is there is a VDOT Commuter Parking Lot at Minnieville and Old Bridge Roads - both PRTC bus service, carpools and SLUG LINES are available there.
Additionally, the VRE WOODBRIDGE STATION is about 20 minutes from Lake Ridge if rail transportation better suits your needs.
Bus, train, carpool or slugging is a matter of personal choice, but if you want a cup of coffee the Tackett's Mill Shopping Center can solve the problem. As you proceed east on Old Bridge Road, turn right into Tackett's Mill, pull into the drive-through at Baskin Robbins or McDonald's and fill 'er up. You can cross over to the VDOT parking lot for bus, carpool or slug line or continue on to the VRE station.

As 25 year residents there is very little my husband and I do not know about Lake Ridge. We've raised our family here, been active in community service and, as real estate brokers, have sold many homes to and for people.
One of the most interesting features about Lake Ridge is that it is made up of rolling hills and was heavily treed prior to its' development. Today, with more than 7,500 homes it is still heavily treed in both the common areas and at the home sites.
It is what my husband of 39 years and real estate partner for 32 years love about Lake Ridge. Two of our posts TREES and ZOO highlight what the majority of residents appreciate about Lake Ridge.
There is a small park and boat launch area on the Occoquan Reservoir that is only available to Lake Ridge residents. Surprisingly, not many residents are aware of its' existence. Not surprisingly, many realtors are not aware of its' existence. You also need a key to get in which only residents can get.
I'll be happy to give you a tour of it if you'll give me the opportunity to show you Lake Ridge homes.

Tacketts Mill was the first shopping center to be built in Lake Ridge and it is the first one you see as you enter the community . It is located at the south side of Old Bridge Road on Harbor Drive. The anchor store is a Safeway super market, but it has the normal complement of stores that are typical of a neighborhood shopping center, banks, pizzeria, barber shops and beauty salons, game store, spa, gym, etc. It even has a Shell gas station, McDonalds and a Baskin Robbins/Dunkin' Donuts
Obviously, Lake Ridge residents shop there, but it is attractive to homeowners in surrounding subdivisions that do not have shopping facilities such as TWIN OAKS, FOREST VISTA, BROOKE FARM, SYCAMORE RIDGE and probably Belmont Bay.

Any of the three domain name extensions would be appropriate for Prince William County if they were available. The reason is quite simple. We are home to thousands of military, govenment and private sector men and women.

There are numerous, lovely subdivisions, but the 3 largest are LAKE RIDGE, MONTCLAIR and DALE CITY with more than 40,000 residential properties. Other fairly large subdivisions are Winding Creek, River Falls, Old Bridge Estates, Westridge, Port Potomac and Ashland.
Over the past 32 years my husband and I have served more than 1500 clients throughout Northern Virginia. However, Prince William County has been our home for 25 years - we know it like a book - a favorite book. We know, understand and work comfortably with VA, FHA, Conventional and First Time Buyer financing programs.
