A New England Camping Treasure

Along Boothbay Shores One of the special things about living in New Hampshire is the abundance of choices for vacation destinations and quick get aways. With the price of fuel being on every ones mind and affecting everything we do, it's nice to know that somethings don't have to break the bank to enjoy. The nice thing about living here is that it is a paradise for "close to home" vacations. Whether you stay in a hotel or prefer to camp you won't be disappointed.

Recently Jay and I spent the long 4th of July weekend up in Boothbay Harbor Maine. From our home in Southern NH it is a 2.5 to 3 hour ride and is just a great place to enjoy quality time. Plus being connected as we are, we were able to work, negotiate contracts and keep in touch with our clients all while enjoy a great long weekend away.

It's like being in a different world up there and once we entered the town of Wiscasset and crossed the bridge we knew we had arrived.

The smell of the sea hung heavy in the air and we felt so happy to be back! As usual while in Boothbay we enjoyed fresh lobster bought right off the pier at an off the beaten path Lobster haven called Little River Lobster. His prices are the best around and we were able to buy select hard shell for only $7.25 per pound.

We drove and walked along Boothbay Shores on the Damariscotta River side of East Boothbay and along Ocean Point. Ocean Point fronts the Atlantic Ocean and Linekin Bay and offers some of the most incredible views around.

These spots are our favorites and to my surprise few people who visit the Boothbay Harbor region even know they exist. While the Harbor itself is a quaint place to visit and enjoy...East Boothbay is just extra special. I wish someone up there would adopt me!

This year we also took a boat cruise with The Cap'n Fish crew up along the Kennebec River. It was spectacular even in the fog! Along with taking literately hundreds of photos I shot some short videos. I think I'm getting better at taking videos and I hope you enjoy them and that they give you a feel for what the region is like.

A pretty little ocean beach in Seabrook NH...(LOCALISM FEATURED)

Seabrook Beach NH

New Hampshire only has 18 miles of coastline, but all 18 miles are beautiful and very changeable. Dotted through-out those 18 miles are 6 public access beaches and one of them is Seabrook Beach.

Seabrook Beach has long been over shadowed by the Nuclear Power Plant…an ugly blight on what would normally be a pretty landscape.

The beach itself is small and clean and never really crowded. Seabrook is nestled between the two popular beach towns of Salisbury Mass and Hampton NH.

Next time you’re in the area visit Seabrook and be sure to try a seafood chowder at Ceal’s Clam Stand...it is yummy!

New Hampshire a waterfront mecca...

Kingston LakeSummer in NH…a true waterfront mecca.

I love summer in New Hampshire. I love our rocky coastline and our wonderful lakes and ponds.

New Hampshire has so many lakes, ponds, streams and rivers that water recreation can be found just about everywhere.

The list is huge starting from the First and Second Connecticut Lakes, Lake Francis, Umbagog Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, Squam Lake, New Found Lake, Winnisquam Lake, Big Island Pond, Pawtuckaway Lake to name just a few and then of course there are The Rivers.

We can't forget rivers like the Connecticut River, Piscataqua River, and the Merrimack River. Most offer paddling, sight-seeing, fishing and rafting.

We have wonderful whitewater boating rivers like the Saco River and many small pretty lakes and ponds all surrounded by woods and rocky shoreline which are ideal for boating and swimming.

New Hampshire also has a small but beautiful coastline boldly hugging the Atlantic Ocean which provide acres of estuaries, tidal waters and mud flats.

I really do love summer in New Hampshire and fall and of course spring. Winter? Well, I'm not such a big fan of winter anymore... but winter in the New Hampshire is pretty nonetheless.

Awhile back Jay and I started a blog for our waterfront listings and it has morphed into a site that covers not only some New Hampshire waterfront listings but also some New Hampshire Lakes and Pond information.

If you haven’t stopped by…check it out here http://nhwaterfronthomesforsale.com/ It’s still a work in progress but we’d love your suggestions and or opinions.

A swan by the side of the road in Rye NH

Did you know that they bite? I didn't and thank god I didn't because I probably would not have stayed there and filmed.

We were on our way to Portsmouth NH to have lunch with Ann Cummings when a thick fog bank rolled in and covered everthing.

Up in Rye on the side of the road we encountered a huge white swan, several little ducks and a sky rat (seagul) all playing in a swamp covered in lily pads. I shot a few short videos and posted them on my outside blog. If you want to watch them click here>>> http://monikamcgillicuddy.com/wordpress/

It was a sight to see!

Southern New Hampshire special perks...

I've been playing around with video and while I have not yet figured out how to edit, I have been having fun with them.

Recently we spent a week camping at the beach. I love the beach and camping there is close enough for us to go back and forth to work as needed.

That means that I can enjoy, coming home to the beach after work and not feel guilty for having been away or vegging out a little bit more than usual.

Plus being connected via e-mail and internet makes all the difference in the world. I can do property searches; update my sellers all while watching the boats sail by. Anyway, like I said I've been playing with video and this week I tried out Vimeo. So far I really like it. The upload seemed much faster than Veoh and YouTube and the end result is pretty nice.

Now if I can only learn how to edit them...I need a video editing for real dumb people type book. Something simple that even an old lady can learn to do.

Check out my beach videos...My Southern New Hampshire area has a lot to offer and being a short 30 minutes from the beach is one special perk that I really enjoy.
