What a Hurricane Looks Like in Oklahoma

Well, Mr. Gustav finally made his way to Oklahoma. One nice thing about living inland is that when hurricanes arrive, they've usually lost their punch.

Where'd the sun go?Grey skies are gonna clear up...but not today!

Whoosh!Blow wind blow!

(The tree looks funny because it was damaged in last year's major ice storm)

Brrrr!Yesterday the number was between 80 and 100!

In the world of Oklahoma real estate you learn quickly to buy really good shoes! Days like this can turn a good pair of expensive shoes into old leather quickly. For those of us who are "shoe consumers" this is a good thing. For newbies to real estate, it can be one of those surprises you weren't expecting!

Today I have to go to a client's house to look at some settling issues they are having. That means being outside in the rain for a bit. Yep, that short sleeved shirt and dress shoes from yesterday won't work today at all. Time to get the heavy duty stuff out!

Have a good day in the world of real estate folks!

Picture Tour of Branson MO

I'm from Oklahoma, but I grew up visiting Branson back when Highway 76 was just a two-lane road. Sure enough, the traffic was as slow then as it is now. But that's okay, because that's just a part of the Branson experience.

Over Labor Day, we packed up the family and headed back for the last big weekend of the summer. Here's an outsider's view of a great vacation spot...

We started out with the Noah show. It's really cool, especially when they raise the curtains to reveal...well, you'll just have to go to the show to see the answer.

Yummy!

Sunday lunch means a trip to Lambert's. Yes, it's totally worth the 30 minute drive and yes, it's totally worth the 1 1/2 hour wait!

Quack Quack

This year we got to ride the ducks! For those who don't know, these were troop transport boats used in WW II. On the trip you get to "splash" into one of the two lakes and cruise around in the water for a while.

One of the best parts is the display in the store showing the boats in service during the war.

Very cool!

Ahoy Mate! Yep, it's the Titanic. This museum has over 400 artifacts from the actual ship. When you "board" you are handed the name of one of the actual people who were on board. Will you survive? Hmmmm.

That's the Showboat Branson Bell. It's a three story replica of an early American steamboat. And check this out. It is actually a SHOW. You get a fabulous three course dinner and a really cool show while you tour Lake Taneycomo. If you do this when you're in Branson, be sure to sit at the Captain's table. It rocks!

Yeah!

Part of the Branson experience for us is riding and competing in Go Karts! This pic is blurry because I was going so fast! (Just kidding!)

Start Your Engines!

Even the younger generation can get into the racing action!

Sweet Treats

Cakes and Cream Dessert Parlor.

Oh yeah...it's the bomb! In my next post, I'll include the pic of the dessert we got there. It is a SWEET TREAT. See my previous post on Not So Sweet Treats to understand...

Okay folks, that's a very brief tour of Branson. This doesn't even include pics of the main strip - Highway 76 where many of the shows are located. And it definitely doesn't include all the shows and other things you can do in Branson because, as you can see, when you are there you have to pick and choose what you do. That's good because it means there is plenty to do on your next trip!

One other thing...I would be remiss if I didn't mention the new Branson Landing. It rocks! http://www.bransonlanding.com/

A Brief Interview with Tamara, the manager of the Owasso Delta Cafe

This is Tamara. She's the manager of the Owasso Delta Cafe. My wife and I met her tonight while eating dinner at the restaurant. Let me introduce you to a wonderful lady who believes in going the extra mile for the customer.

Tamara told me that she's been working for Delta Cafe, Inc for sixteen years. Yes, that's 16 years. You don't stay in the food service industry that long unless you love what you do and you're good at it. And Tamara is very good at what she does.

I asked her why she decided to work at Delta Cafe all those years ago. She said it was because the company offered her flexible hours that allowed her to be with her children. Thanks to Delta Cafe, she didn't have to put her kids into daycare, which was something she didn't want to do.

Tamara's favorite part of working for Delta Cafe is meeting new people. I'd say she chose the right job for that since this restaurant has quickly become a busy Owasso favorite. The Owasso Delta Cafe opened in March of 2008 and was thrilled as they saw their business take off right from the start. Of course, you could guess this, but just in case you were wondering...weekends are the busy times.

It's always good to know what the manager likes on the menu, so I asked. The answer? Catfish!

One thing you might not know about the Delta Cafe is that you can come in just to grab dessert, if you want to. You've seen their special area by the ice cream fountain, right? Well, that area is for when you need something to satisfy your sweet tooth! And speaking of things you might not know, check this out. You can book the ice cream area for birthday parties! Tamara tells me that they're beginning to be pretty busy with the birthday party booking side of business. Not a bad idea, I'd say! Interested in booking a party? Just call 376-9333.

If you're going to be coming to Owasso and want to stop in for a great meal and super service, make sure you check out our Delta Cafe.

For directions to the restaurant, click here.

To visit the Delta Cafe website, click here.

One other thing you might not know about Delta Cafe is that they have gift certificates for kids in your organization or group. Tamara gave us a bunch to use in our church as awards for kids who achieve certain goals. When they get a gift certficate, they can take it to the restaurant and get 10% off their meal.

As I like to say...How cool is that?!

If you haven't made it down the Delta Cafe in Owasso yet, make sure you go soon. You'll enjoy good food, great service and top notch management!

Owasso Braum's Photo Tour

Here in our town when you want a sweet treat, one of the places you head to is Braum's. It's one of those places where you run into friends while enjoying your shake, freeze or treat.

Lots of Neon!

At nighttime in the summer, the neon lights are a beautiful sight!

In line for a treat

These ladies are placing their orders while enjoying the view of the various flavors of ice cream!

The produce

Not only can you get your ice cream fix, but you can pick up your produce too. Notice that, towards the end of the day, the shelves have been somewhat picked over...

Bananas!

The bannana shelf is looking empty too!

Go Green!

You can get your veggies too! This shelf has apples, oranges, salads, carrots and dressings.

MOO!

Got milk?

MOO TWO

Think breakfast!

You got your cheese and your eggs and the bisquits and the yogurt too!

Grill time!

Meat lovers have their section too. The chicken salad ROCKS!

I'll take some to go!

It wouldn't be an ice cream store if you couldn't take some home with you!

Light up the Night!

We don't have the Northern lights here in Oklahoma...we have the Nighttime lights!

We have lots of other great places to shop and eat in Owasso as well. Stay tuned for more photo tours in the near future!

Writing Blogging Spelling and Misspelling

IT'S FUN FRIDAY HERE IN THE RAIN!!!

I found this description of a home for sale in my little part of the world. Now for the fun part...what is wrong with the description??? Do you see anything? Is there anything wrong with it???

Come home to this great home in (name of neighborhood) in (my town). (Name of floorplan) plan. Owner purchased then got transferred. Must see this home with 4beds, 2baths, gameroom, formal dining, 3car garage in (name of neighborhood). Rear covered patio, security system. Great location.

I don't know about you, but I'm finding spelling and grammar mistakes creeping into real estate writing in huge numbers. And the funny thing is that I'm not even any good at spelling and grammar. Okay, maybe I'm okay at it, but in school I wasn't a straight A student in my English classes! It is unfortunate that our computer program spell checker doesn't know the difference between things like

know and no
got and was
there and their
your and you're
to and too (speaking of which, too means also...I think!)
right and wright

And there are many others as well (or is that to, or too, or also???)

I found this fun and helpful website called www.yourdictionary.com. It has a list of the 100 most misspelled words. Here's an example...

  • a lot
    • Two words! Hopefully, you won't have to allot a lot of time to this problem.
  • It's a fun website to visit and a great one to point your kids towards - or your clients kids.

In the meantime, remember that the image we present out there is critical to our success. Proper spelling and grammar help you look like you know what you're talking about, which isn't a bad thing! Do you have to be a straight A spelling student when writing emails or blogging? NO, but for Pete's sake use your spell check and have someone else proof what you write BEFORE sending your email or posting your blog. Even better, write it, spell check it, save it and come back and read it later before positing it. OR go ahead and post it and then go read it. It's amazing what mistakes you'll catch!

I oughta know. I lost count of how many blogs I've had to go back in and edit to fix mistakes long ago!
