The month of September was filled with gloom and doom from government officials who foolishly decided pumping 700 billion into Wall Street was the solution. The stock market continues to slide downward and big banks are bickering about who gets to take over the fallen financial institutions. With all that bull about it being nearly impossible to get credit I will pull a quote from the front page of today's New Haven Register, "But even against that backdrop, Connecticut-based banks are faring well and have money to lend".
Single family homes sales continue to be sluggish. September volume was down 20% from last year with 59 homes closing in my 5 primary towns. The lower priced communities on North Haven & North Branford actually saw in increase in the number of homes sold compared to last year while Branford, Guilford & Madison had less.

This is a great site I discovered a few years ago after a several months of fitness walking evolved into my interest in running. Since I have always been somewhat of a numbers nut tracking my time and mileage was important to me so while searching for a better way to figure out my distance I stumbled in
to America's Running Routes.
Last week while on vacation in Fort Myers Beach was the first time I used the site to select a route. On the west coast of Florida the sun doesn't rise as early as I'm accustom to in New England so I was up early waiting for dawn so I could begin my first run on the sand. Since I was staying towards the northern end of the island I estimated the journey to the starting point of the mapped route and back would be about 7 miles which was what my training plan called for that day.
As the sun attempted to break out a dark cloud seemed to be following me as I approached the 3-1/2 mile mark. The "awesome beach run" listed on America's Running Routes turned out to be a decent change of pace for me since I never run on sand. There is not traffic to worry about but you do need to pay attention to each step. Along the way I passed a few sand castles and seveal deep holes that could easily result in a broken leg.
On the return run the distant rainbow was pointing the way to my pot of gold. Unfortunately to reach that point I did have to endure the wind and rain. My expectation of a flat easy run was not exactly as anticipated but this was only the first of five outings I planned to for each morning of my summer vacation.

Leaving the heat of the city for a day at the shore is now a whole lot easier with Eastbound Trains to Guilford, Connecticut. Folks from Manhattan typically think of New Haven as the end of the line but effective on the 4th of July Shoreline East added convenient connections that leave Union Station minutes after the arrival of trains from Grand Central that will deliver passengers to Guilford.
There are many activities within walking distance of the Guilford Train Station. Walk less than 1/4 of a mile to step back in time while you wander the grounds of the oldest house in Connecticut. Now a museum the Henry Whitfield House was constucted of stone around 1639.
Continuing in a northward direction about a half mile will bring you to the Guilford Green. Considered one of the most picturesque town centers in New England you can simply enjoy the open space, poke around the surrounding shops or enjoy lunch at Whitfield's.

Everyone needs water to survive but if you want to enjoy the water of Long Island Sound the newly refurbished boat launch in Guilford Connecticut offers easy access for a modest fee. The Boat Ramp is cconveniently located at the end of Whitfield Street about a mile south of the Town Green. 
For a nice lunch or dinner The Stone House Restaurant is within a few hundred yards of the boat ramp. During the summer months if you'd like a bite to eat in a less formal setting the Little Stone House Cafe offers soups, salads & sandwiches with live entertainment from local singers. Sit outside and enjoy a leisurely lunch, glass of wine or a beer while you relax.

As you can see by the photo's my latest endeavor includes running. This started in the fall of 2005 as casual dinner conversation with friends and evolved into a year round hobby. In 2007 my goal was to finish a Half Marathon so in June I ran the Fairfield Half and had so much fun that in October I ran the Greater Hartford Half Marathon trimming a minute per mile off my time. At this stage I'm thinking I should stick with the 13.1 mile run and work on speed for 2008.
Professionally my career included 25 years in an Engineering & Manufacturing environment before joining my wife in Real Estate. We now work as the CummingsTeam of William Raveis Real Estate. With us you receive a blended perspective of life in New Haven County.
My Half Marathon training coupled with being a lifelong resident of the Greater New Haven area gives me the stamina to cover a wide range of towns. Primarily I concentrate on the shoreline towns of Branford, Guilford and Madison plus North Branford and North Haven.
