Kauai ranked one of the World's 10 "Best Islands to Live on"

Kauai was selected by Islands Magazine as one of the Top 10 most livable islands in the world in the July/August edition. Last year, the Big Island was selected, but the editors were taken by the green, mountainous heart, rugged canyons and white fringe of beaches." Here's the complete article.

Opaekaa FallsYup, that's home!! My grandsons comment on the mountains as I drive them to daycare - "Gramma, look - the mountains have a rainbow!" That's Makana who is about to turn 3. He was very confused when we have the bad VOG, and he couldn't see the beautiful mountains any more.

We drive past Opaekaa Falls everyday on the way to the babysitter. And when the Cruise Ships are in, we have to detour through Kalapaki Bay to see the "Big, Big Boat!"

Whether you plan to live here full time, or are looking for a vacation home - please contact me and I'll help you fulfill your dreams of living in Paradise!

Protecting Hawaii's monk seals

Kauai People weekly newspaper highlights one woman's efforts to care for and protect Hawaii's monk seals. You can read the entire article on page 12, continued on page 15. Mimi Olry's commitment is inspirational!

When my daughter and I first visited Kauai, we were staying at Pono Kai in Kapaa and on Sunday morning, I found a monk seal on the beach. No one was around, and I thought the poor thing was dead! So, not knowing any better - I tried to call the Humane Society, which was closed and had a recording referring to the Police Dept...so I called them, and they very patiently and kindly explained about how Monk seals need their sleep...that he was just resting, and would I please make sure no one bothered him. So, I grabbed my novel, sat sentinel for most of the day - politely stopping people from bothering my sleeping neighbor.

Poipu Beach - Great for kids!

We're so lucky that Mother Nature gave us some great kiddie pools here on Kauai. At Poipu Beach, you'll find a wonderful area right near the lifeguard, playground and picnic benches that is shallow all the way out to the reef blocking the area from the currents. My grandsons love it and aren't afraid of the water at almost 2 and almost 3.

Inspiring Local Kauai Artist

In this week's Kauai People, the cover story highlights one of the most inspiring people I've ever met! Moses Hamilton, 32, has turned one of the worst things that can happen into a source of inspiration for others. Not only his personal triumph over a prognosis that would have him on a ventilator for life after a tragic car accident in 2002, but through sharing his joy, light, spirit and beauty through his art. Painting with a small brush held in his mouth, his artwork carries the vibrant, colorful aloha unique to Kauai.

There's a reception for him today from 2pm to 5pm in Hanalei at Robin Savage's Gift and Gourmet.
