Medford Fireworks Tonight, July 3rd 2008

Medford Township will Celebrate Independence Day with a Fireworks display in Freedom Park in Medford.  The fireworks are always great and enjoyed by all.  Festivities will start at 6 p.m.

Fireworks Celebrations 2008If for some reason you can not make it to the celebration tonight, other communities in Burlington County, South Jersey and the Delaware Valley, will provide many opportunities to enjoy fireworks displays put on by local communities.

You can also attend Fort Dix's Independence Day Celebration for what I believe is one of the best fireworks displays you will enjoy up close.

Check out Philly.com's 2008 Fireworks Finder for the location, date and time of fireworks in your area of the Delaware Valley.

Keep in mind that some areas will have fireworks tonight, like Medford, or during the weekend, instead of on the 4th, so be sure to confirm the date.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Health Alert: Lamp Oil Being Mistaken For Apple Juice

The New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIE), recently released a heath alert warning of poisonings -- some leading to hospitalization and at least one death -- that have been caused by accidentally drink lamp (or torch) oil, believing it to be apple juice.

NJPIES Poison HotlineAccording to various news sources, the people that have been poisoned ranged in age from 8 to over 80.

Because the liquids appear almost identical and are often packaged similarly, it is very easy to mistake one for the other if not paying careful attention.

According to Bruce Ruck, PharmD. of NJPIES, "It is very important to recognize lamp oil bottles closely resemble juice containers. When accidentally taken by mouth, such lamp oils can enter the lungs causing pneumonia and death. Jugs containing lamp oils must be stored in a locked cabinet away from storage of food and drinks."

Click here for full NJPIE alert and photos comparing the two substances.

Note: Evidently, this problem is nationwide as there are reports (e.g., state of Illinois) of approximately 70 deaths occuring over past two years caused by drinking lamp oil.
