Fairbanks Alaska May be Selected for 2014 Arctic Winter Games

Hockey, Skiing, Figure Skating.... what we all love about the Winter Olympics right? Well when Cal Miller in 1967 saw his athletes from the north be out done by the southern states he wanted to do something about it. He did. He got the idea to have the northern games for only the Circumpolar North areas would compete on their own turf with their own games and the Arctic Winter Games was born.

Held every two years the Arctic Winter games is fast being known for the amazing athletes in dog mushing, hockey, cross country skiing and many more winter games and sports.

In 2012 the games are already settled to being held in Whitehorse, Yukon in Canada but the 2014 is just now being determined. Talks are being held and this week the committee for the Arctic Winter Games is in Fairbanks Alaska discussing the support and facilities in the area.

The Big Dipper ice arena, home to world class skaters as well as middle school birthday parties is the reception hall for the committee also meeting with the mayors of Fairbanks, North Poles and local Senators.
