Wordless Wednesday Homer Alaska!

There really is no place like Homer Alaska...
This is how it looks on a bad day coming down the hill into Homer....

It is just beautiful even on a rainy cloudy day with the steamy fog blurring the lines
of the mountains and glaciers across the way....

Homer Alaska.... A Great Place to be!

Homer Alaska Sandhill Cranes....
Sandhill Cranes are long legged beautiful creatures... You just have to stop and watch them fly over you when they make their graceful approach...honking sometimes to announce their arrival, they are fascinating to watch.....Cranes love to Dance and when they get going it is a sight to see...
In Homer Alaska we have a 200 plus population of Sandhill Cranes during the season... they come up to the northland to breed... late September they begin their flight back down to the warmer lower 48

In winter, the cranes spend time in central California near Lodi.
Homer's own Cranes will be at San Joaquin Valley in plenty of time for the annual Lodi, California, Sandhill Crane Festival, scheduled for November 6-8, 2009. The Lodi festival is much like the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer Alaska held in early May. Crane arrival information is recorded and celebrated on both ends of the cranes' journey.

Maps and access to the Google Earth information is found at http://www.werc.usgs.gov/sattrack/cranes/maps.html.
Additional information about the Homer birds can be found at http://www.cranewatch.org.
