Today, Monday May 2nd, the Bloodmobile will be at Victory GMC in Calera from 11 AM - 5 PM.  PLEASE DONATE!  Blood supplies are critically low and the need is great.  This is one of many ways we can support relief efforts going on in the wake of the recent tornado outbreak.

The Pumpkin Patch Express is bringing smiles and Halloween fun to kids of all ages each Saturday and Sunday during the month of October!  The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum in Calera is about 30 miles south of downtown Birmingham down I-65 and is well worth the short drive.

 

What is The Pumpkin Patch Express?  Hop on a train and take a scenic ride to the Pumpkin Patch!  The giant pumpkin awaits you there and a bunch of other fun activities.....hayrides, a jumpstation, temporary tattoos and more are included in the ticket price.  You can pick a pumpkin out of the patch for an additional charge, and refreshments will also be available for purchase.  The excursion lasts about 1 1/2 hours. 

 

DEPARTURE TIMES:

Saturdays - 10 AM, 1 PM and 3 PM

Sundays - 1 PM and 3 PM

FIELD OF ANGELS LEAGUE

Giving Special Needs Children The Opportunity To

PLAY BALL in Calera AL!

 

 

 

A very special baseball league opened it's very first season on August 8th 2010 at Oliver Park in Calera AL to a large crowd of cheering and adoring fans!  Click here for photos of all the fun!

 

The Field of Angels League was created by Chris Bunn, a Councilman for the City of Calera and other community volunteers (I won't try to list them for fear of leaving someone out), who saw the need for a baseball league for children with special needs.  Chris' own son, Noah, plays on one of the teams, which include children from all over the community reaching well beyond the city limits of Calera.

 

There are four teams that make up the league this year....Red, Orange, Blue and Green teams will all play each other.  Games are played each Saturday, the final day of the season being September 18th.

 

All the kids get to hit the ball and score for their teams.  Come join in the fun as these little ballplayers make their dreams come true!

There's always something fun going on at the Heart Of Dixie Railroad Museum! One of their most popular events is A DAY OUT WITH THOMAS! Kids of all ages love riding on Thomas The Tank Engine! There will be lots going on......Sir Topham Hatt will be there, storytelling, videos, arts and crafts too!

This is a photo of my brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Ginger. Alan loves trains and has worked as a volunteer for the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum for a long time! Now one of his duties is part-time engineer.......he will be driving Thomas The Tank Engine on Friday, April 9th and Sunday, April 11th. If you see Alan be sure to say hi!

OTHER SPECIAL EVENTS.....

Other special events during the year are the Cottontail Express, Steam Days, Pumpkin Patch Express and The Polar Express. Train rides are available throughout the year, and you can also plan a railroad birthday party or enjoy dinner aboard the William Penn, a refurbished dining car.
