Things to do and see in Enterprise Alabama

When looking for things to do in Enterprise, Alabama, the first stop one should make is the Enterprise Welcome Center. The welcome center serves as a rest stop and is a replica of an early 19th-century log home. Maps and brochures are readily available to assist in your adventure in and around Enterprise, Alabama. There are also guides that can answer any questions you may have as well as give tours of the Little Red Schoolhouse, a replica of a rural American school complete with desks, schoolbooks, chalkboards, and a pot bellied stove. There are several monuments worth stopping at in the city area. Probably the most famous one would be the Boll Weevil Monument in the center of town. This monument is a statue of a female figure holding a trophy with a boll weevil on top. Although the monument celebrates the diversified prosperity of Enterprise, it is said to be the world’s only monument to an agricultural pest. Farmers had to plant crops other crops than cotton when the boll weevils infested the crops which became more lucrative than relying on just cotton.

The Enterprise Depot is close to the Boll Weevil Monument and rich in history as well. The building was originally built in 1903 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. The Pea River Historical Society purchased the building in 1974 and began the current museum.

Built at the same time as the depot, the Rawls Hotel was and still is a hub of activity for many travelers. The hotel is now a bed and breakfast plus a restaurant and bar where guests can relax close to the city shops downtown. The hotel has also had a number of “unusual occurrences” and ghost stories to add to its intrigue. Definitely worth stopping by to visit or get a bite to eat.
When looking for a quiet spot, check out the Enterprise Recreational Complex. The complex has lighted walking trails, a children’s playground area, a scenic lake and a picnic pavilion. Would be the perfect area for the kids to get out of the car and run around and play.

Although not in the city of Enterprise, the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker is definitely worth making a side trip to see. The museum has over 160 military aircraft as well as one of the largest collections of military helicopters in the world. Displays highlight the Army’s involvement in aviations from the days of the Wright brothers and combat aircraft of World War I, to the modern technology aircrafts flown today. However, if unavailable to make it to Fort Rucker, make sure to visit the UH-1 or “The Huey” helicopter donated by US Army Aviation Center in Enterprise. Around the base is the "Walk of Generals" featuring plaques honoring commanding generals of Fort Rucker.

From old schoolhouses to railroad depots and haunted hotels, there are lots of things to do in Enterprise, Alabama. A little bit of history mixed with a little bit of intrigue equals quite an adventure. Boll Weevil Festival in Enterprise Alabama - October 22, 2011

Tammy Emineth: Real Estate - Other in Ozark, MO

Come join the residents of Enterprise Alabama on October 22, 2011 for the annual Boll Weevil Festival from 9:00am to 3:00pm boll weevil monument

This annual event celebrates what Enterprise is known for; the little boll weevil bug. Enterprise is famous for the Boll Weevil Monument, a large monument of a woman holding a Boll Weevil, which is located in the town square. Enterprise put up the statue because the destruction of the cotton crop had led to agricultural diversity, starting with peanuts and more prosperity than had ever come from cotton alone. The Boll Weevil stature is the only statue to an insect pest in the world standing as a reminder of how the city adjusted in the face of adversity.

On October 22 from 9am to 3pm the city of Enterprise along with neighboring towns and communities will come together for fun, food, music and entertainment. In addition to this there will be arts and crafts vendors, variety of music, food, children's costume contest and activities, farmers market, and a car show.

Century 21 Regency Realty is holding a coloring contest that will be on display at the old Rawls Warehouse on 201 N Main Street in Downtown Enterprise. Click on this Boll Weevil Coloring page to download the paper, color it and bring it into our Century 21 Office at 531 Boll Weevil Circle.

HELP! We Switched Brokerages and Can't Use the Same Domain Anymore! ~ Email Challenge

stress at the computerHELP! We Switched Brokerages and Can't Use the Same Domain Anymore! ~ Email Challenge

This is a tough one. As an SEO professional I have spent a couple years building up a reputation for a certain real estate site. Their domain was their brokerage name and area. I have spent hundreds of hours over the past few years linking to the site, tagging the site, creating pages, articles and everything else for the site. Not to mention the hundreds of back links spread literally all over timbucktoo pointing back to this specific URL.

Then comes the email. We are no longer affiliated with said brokerage and here is our new domain name, please optimize accordingly. Sccreeeccchhhh...... go the brakes. We were going along almost on auto-pilot with the site keeping up with blogs, articles and links at a wonderfully consistent pace when this puts the entire system at a halt.

So we tried the 301 redirect attempt only to learn that the previous brokerage will not allow any further use of the domain including any redirects. The domain literally is to be shut off, no longer to use, wiped from existence. Trust me, I tried every which way to save that domain and direct it to the new site. NOPE.... finito!

So where do you go from here?

"Client ~

If we can not redirect the old domain then unfortunately yes we will have to start all over.

We will have to go through all of the sites that are linking to the old domain and change them to the new which is 100's of sites and we only control a certain amount.

A link counts as a vote for your site so you are going from a lot of votes to none at all and this will have an effect. A 301 redirect will "redirect" all of your old votes to your new site" (this is as simple as I can explain it) Google only likes "trusted" sites and your new site will be un-trusted for a while and this will set back all rankings.

I will work extra hard on your site to get it trusted again by adding new content and pages but there still is a penalty that you should be aware of. Since we also need to redo the title and description of the site. I will research new and up to date keywords for the meta tags and go through as many links as we have to reset them.website and email logo

Thank you for your patience during this transition."

So there it is. Not something any broker, agent or website owner wants to hear.

My advice for the future? Don't limit your domain to something that MAY change. Although domains with cities in them are great for the search engines, if you move to another area, you will have to start all over - as in Don Reinhard's case moving from the Chelan WA area to Lake Havasu City.

Your name probably won't change. Finding the right domain can be trickier than you think. It helps to consider future moves, name changes or brokerage changes. It's an uphill battle for sure but the good news is with this site, in two months we are already up to the 2nd page of Google with almost 1000 visitors a month. Not bad for a complete reset of the system, eh?
