Featuring great music, and plenty of food and drink, Otey's Fest 2011 will be this Saturday, July 23rd beginning at 5 PM in the parking lot at Otey's Tavern in Crestline Village! (pssst.....go hang out at Market Day first)

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Otey's Tavern or online for $15 each and you will be able to pick them up at the gate for $20. Ages 12 and under get in FREE.

Last week I wrote a post titled Gardening and Reading Fun at Emmet O'Neal Library in Crestline Village. The Emmit O'Neal Library and Oak Street Garden shop partnered together in a project to add even more fun to the library's summer reading program! Children and their families have been working in the garden and have created a visual treat in the middle of Crestline's shopping village.

GARDENING AND READING FUN

AT

EMMET O'NEAL LIBRARY IN CRESTLINE VILLAGE

 

 

 

 

The Summer Reading Program at Emmet O'Neal Library was something I participated in every summer as a child.  I read lots of books!  That was a few (lol) years ago and I wish I had as much time for reading as I did back then.

 

This year, young readers from pre-schoolers to teenagers and their families, had fun not only reading, but cultivating a garden right across the street from the library, on a plot of land owned by Oak Street Garden Shop.  The kids grew tomatoes, beans, squash and zucchini, with the garden shop providing the seeds, tools and plenty of help to make their garden a success.  And what a success!  The garden flourished and they were able to help those in need by donating excess food to Magic City Harvest!

 

 

 

So now that the kids are back in school, what has become of their garden?   It is still being cared for, and with fall coming up, it might be a great spot for a pumpkin patch! 

 

Thanks to Emmet O'Neal Library and Oak Street Garden Shop for partnering together on this project which the entire community has been able to enjoy.

Where to Eat in Crestline Village - Mt. Brook AL

Crestline Village is one of my favorite places to shop and eat in the Birmingham area. One of three shopping villages in Mountain Brook, Crestline is only minutes from downtown Birmingham. It's about a 30 minute drive from my house, but well worth the trip!

I'll share some of the shopping spots in another post.....today I have food on my mind so here are just a few that are sure to please!

La Paz - Voted Birmingham's best Mexican restaurant two years in a row!
