Southern Living readers vote Gulf Shores the best |
| Nearly 3 million sets of eyes will stumble upon the sugar white sands of Alabama's beaches in the January 2009 issue of Southern Living. The publication's annual readers' choice awards list the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area as one the best beaches and best family destinations in the Southeast while the National Shrimp Festival ranked as a top festival and fair. In the best beach category, Southern Living reader's ranked the sugar white sands of the Alabama Gulf Coast alongside other notable destinations such as Destin, FL; Myrtle Beach, SC; Panama City Beach, FL; Hilton Head Island, SC; Sanibel Island, FL; Outer Banks, NC; and Virginia Beach, VA. On a similar note, the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area fared well in the best family destination category comparing to such destinations as Walt Disney World; Williamsburg, VA; Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN; San Antonio, TX; Branson, MO; and Charleston, SC. Finally in the best festival/fair category, the National Shrimp Festival ranked alongside Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Florida Strawberry Festival and state fairs in South Carolina, Texas and North Carolina. "Every year, we look forward to the announcement of these awards," said Herb Malone, president/CEO of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau. |

We have not even made it to the Inauguration of President Elect Barak Obama, but positve messages are already being spread throughout the media.
Here are some example Headlines, this past week.

In months past, NOONE was talking about home sales rising anywhere in the United States!
This is remarkable.
Whether you voted for Barak or not, the perception among most Americans is that he can change our country. I saw a poll recently where over 66 % of Americans believed that Barak Obama would improve the country's current economic state.
All we need is to change the opinion of the main stream to make a step forward in the current recession.
While I understand that our economic troubles are very complicated, I also believe that the public's perception of our economy and real estate market is key to turning things around.
I am not sure Barak Obama can himself will be responsible for turning this country around, but the perception of the American people sure can!
I have noticed that some of these positive media messages have sparked resentment among those who supported the McCain/Palin ticket. My suggestion is to embrace it! If you can't beat em, join em. I have never been shy so I will just tell you that I voted for McCain. Nonetheless, I am already LOVING 2009.
If my call volume and website hits are a small microcosm of the bigger economic picture, then things are looking up.
