2007 Olde Towne East Spring Tour - Recap part One

If you missed the 2007 Olde Towne East Tour of Homes last weekend, you're surely kicking yourself.  There were 13 homes that ran the gamut from Eastwood Avenue to nearly I-70. It was nice to see the tour get out of the OTE comfort zone, get North of Broad and South of Main while hitting Wilson and Linwood avenues.  Great Homes, Great People.  I went with my wife and kids and we didn't make it to each house (that's right, kids) and I had to work later in the day so I'll only recap the homes I actually visited (in two posts)  before the rain came.

Game and Media Room in the 1403 Eastwood B&B1403 Eastwood.  This brick Queen Anne has a wonderful game/media room fit for the bed and breakfast that has operated there for some time.  Five guest rooms all together, three with attached baths. It's completely updated, and nicely done I might add, and literally a turn key operation.  It's also on the market right now.

A delightful young couple have done a superb job renovating this Dutch Colonial Revival.  Every room was done with forethought and taste.  From the new kitchen to the restored Carriage House to the arts and crafts period touches and cherry and mahogany everywhere, this house is a great example of what some time, understanding and know can do for a neighborhood restoration. (Visit the homeowner's Stone Company.)

I've always wondered what the main house at 1415 East Broad Street looked like inside. Wow, it is much more original and more detailed than I'd anticipated.  This French "country" Palace from 1896 has served as one of The social homes of Columbus' Richest families to a home to Wayward and working girls run by the Franciscan Sisters. The current owner rescued it from demolition in 1977, when it had 24 bathrooms.
