The Kids During The Inspection...

Today I saw five different kinds of bees!

You may ask, How in the world did I have time to spot that many teensy flying critters?

During an Inspection, of course!

While my buyer client was discussing the property with the inspector, looking in attics, sticking his head in cobwebby places, and learning about the whereofs and the whynots and the whatisthats... I was discussing the world with his very sweet, precocious, inquisitive, bright, investigative four year old daughter, and distracting her from the tenants' cats and personal belongings.

We looked at flowers! And of course the accompanying buzzing things.
And of course, since I always have my camera (and I had alread used the what-is-in-your-purse distraction routine with her), I was required to take pictures of all the interesting things we saw together.

We identified rhododendrons, azaleas, columbine, mint, dandelion, buttercup, roses, forget-me-not, indian paintbrush, honeysuckle,
And so many other things we didn't know the names of, all at this one small city lot on Olympia's Westside.

Cute little honeybees were all over these purple flowers.

These paintbrush flowers had bigger yellower bee things.

 And of course ladybugs!

We were unable to get action shots of some great little mason orchard bees, or these neat bees with bright green backs which were interested in the dandelions. And there was an itsy teensy little thing on the tiny pink mint flowers too.

Beautiful flowers.

Robin, very nice post.  I love the way you brought spring into it too.

Thanks Bob,

One of my inspirations was your post OK have you gotten out and looked at your community? And, what did you find?

I always have my camera with me, but I often forget to pull it out to take a picture of the odd thing. Like the Bananaz in the Back Window... which may well be a new posting some day soon LOL

Thanks Robin :) It really is quite the colorful time of year here.

Sarah: That was so colorful and interesting!  Great post!

Thanks :) Next will be Babies & Puppies LOL

I wonder how often we do things like this during the inspections.

Hi, Sarah!  Liked your name and just had to stop by.  :o)

Beautiful pictures, and I would have spent my time the same way!

Thanks Sarah! It really was a fun time in between the bits of the comments I needed to hear from the Inspector. Sadly the deal died on that Inspection, but the daughter and I had a fun time playing with the bugs and the flowers. She is one of my favorites :)

We also talked about favorite movies- she had just seen the cartoon version of The Hobbit for the first time, so was very interested in discussing it and what happened. She decided the dragon looked like a kitty.

Aww, sorry about the deal -- but you got some great pictures and a sweet memory out of it.  Now you get to help your buyer find a new one.  :o)

Hopefully you get to spend more time with your new, little, friend....hopefully by now you've found her and dad a new home!

Great photos, and I congratulate you on your wonderful handling of the child.  But what on earth is a child doing on a home inspection?????  I realize it is not always within your control, and you handled this like a saint.

Fortunately, I have never had to deal with this - perhaps because I tell people UP FRONT that they cannot bring any children into someone else's home during the inspection, so let's schedule it during school hours or when they know they can get a babysitter...and this is not negotiable.   Knock on wood, so far I've been lucky.

Sounds like your a cool Realtor when it comes to kids! I bet the parents and home inspector loved you for keeping the kid occupied.

I love your pics! Hopefully the inspector found none of those bees in the attic... or anywhere else that bees sometimes coincidentally build nests..

You mean these:

I bet that there were 30 nests on the outside. And no I did not go in the attic.

Too funny.  We do every thing to get our inspections done.  Great photos!

Great photos!  I'm currently having trouble dealing with my empty nest syndrome and I must admit that I thoroughly enjoy other people's children.  We work so seriously most of the time that when clients bring their children on showings, I really enjoy myself.  Children see potential and creativity in rooms and architecture that adults find awkward.  And how exciting is a vacant house?  Children think its really exciting.

The whereofs and the whynots and the whatisthats are on row 16 at Home Depot. Look for them on sale in your Sunday paper.  I have to write those things up ALL the time! Let's get them fixed folks.....

I was just on a home inspection and saw the coolest thing and made me think of you. The buyer was there with two of his kids. He went to the back yard with the kids gave them a portable DVD player and the kids watched movies the entire time. No trouble there!
