I would like to inform everyone in the AR community about a recent death. I think you all know Mike Stankewich, a well known Agent in the AR Community and in
Huntington Beach, CA. Coming back to work from vacation on Thursday, I came back to very bad news. I was informed that Mike had past away the previous week. I had just finished speaking to him the day he died. He died on May 21, 2007. He was survived by his wife and two daughters. It was the same day he posted The Short Sale - Part IV* and The Short Sale - Part V*. Since then I haven't been able to confirm his death until today. He has built a wonderful reputation as mentioned in posts by Rita Taylor, Missy Caulk, Ashley Drake Gebhart, and Wayne McMullan on Active Rain as well as here in Orange County.
Mike was a great photographer and shared lots of his knowledge and photos with us. Some of the groups he started here on ActiveRain are Surf City USA - Recreational and Resort Living in Huntington, Photoshop Elements for Real Estate, Most Active ActiveRain Blogging Agents, and Free Real Estate Tips and Information. Mike was ranked #10 in California, #1 in Orange County, and #1 in Huntington Beach.
There is so much more that I could say about Mike but if any of you have read any of the blogs that he has posted then you will know that he will be missed. Thank you for all of your knowledge, support and comments. My regards go out to your family.
REST IN PEACE MIKE STANKEWICH!!

Hi there,
Thank you for providing us this this inforation. I never met Mike although we had a mutual friend together in Orange County. My sincere condolences to his family and to all of your who were friends.
I have not been on the Rain much over the past week or so. I felt like I was just getting to know Mike through his posts. The comments this blog received is just a testament to Mike's relationship with folks - folks like me who never had the pleasure of meeting him. God bless his family.
Sleep well Mike. The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.
I recognized his photo right away as someone who I thought well of in the AR community.
Life is short, make the best of it.
Mike
God Bless you and thanks for sharing your knowlege. Your legacy will live on.
Mike has all the answers - I join in with all the other AR community to send sympathy and prayers to those who will feel the pian and the loss of such a great contributor to our industry. Today is the first day of the rest of our life - we nevver now do we when that will be the last day.
Wow, what do you say when a "good man" goes? Never met him but I can tell he was a "jewel"! May God be with him and his family during this difficult time.
Sad.
Maria
In my belief system I feel Mike is where he will be the happiest. Our grief is from missing his physical presence and his mark on our lives makes that grief very real indeed.
Happy trails Mike.
I saw a comment saying Rest in peace on one of Mike's blogs that I had checked off and thought it was a strange statement. I then did a search and found this. My deepest condolences to his family. I am in shock. Mike was an eloquent and informative contributor here at AR and I'm sure his life was the same. He will be missed.
I never met the man, but this feels like a real loss. I enjoyed his posts and got the feeling that he was a genuinely good, caring person, who I would have liked to have met face-to-face. His presence will be missed on this blog. I've been out of the loop too long and just found out about Mike today. What a shock. My condolences to his family and to those of you who knew him personally.
I missed this post. I am truly sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to his family and friends. When I first came to AR he was one of the first people I talked with via email. He helped me with a number of things and I thought this is so strange...he doesn't even know me but is going out of his way to help. Then he even called me to help even more. Thinking back I must have talked to him day before if not the day he passed. What a loss!!
Yes it was...He was a great loss to this community and we will miss him very much
What a shock. I was just reading one of his blogs when it led me to yours. I'm so glad we have some great blogs that he's written to remember him by. My most sincere condolensces to his family and friends. I am truly sorry.
