Fort Benning - Teacher of the Year

Fort Benning - Margaret Koger has been named the region's, Georgia and Alabama,  teacher of the year!  The Department of Defense Education Activity competition includes 14 district top teachers worldwide. In September, Margaret Koger will be  on her way to the Capitol to compete for the title of National Teacher of the Year. The winner of the competition will receive $3000 in cash and more importantly will garner a sabbatical for the second semester of the year to pursue professional development, in the field of the winners expertise.

Margaret Koger's pursuit of excellence is not new. She was selected and trained as a teacher fellow with the National Writing Project.  This involved development of teaching and writing classes at the state and local levels.  She also served as elementary representative for the Georgia Council of Teachers of English for three years. Margaret Koger took a leadership role in the integaration of technology and conducted research projects that became the center of discussion internationally. She went on to assist discussion groups on the integration of technology in the curriculum in the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory. The implementation of the Partners in Education progaram got a big boost from her efforts on the local level. Fort Benning, McBride School, Loyd School, and the students of the area have benefitted from the efforts of Margaret Koger.  Best wishes in the upcoming competition Margaret, you have already made us very proud.
